Hitler rebuilt Germany's industrial machine, attained 100% employment, but then engaged in constant wars all over the European continent, ultimately taking on Russia, which was more than he could handle. Furthering the demise of the reich, his assent into France got the United States involved in the war, a foe they had no hope of defeating although they remained a formidable opponent right up to the end. Hitler's basic rule of thumb was never to start a war on two fronts, but he did it anyway by attacking Great Britain and simultaneously conducting the war with Russia on the eastern front. A sullen Russian winter and Stalin's cache of troops in Siberia, unbeknownst to Hitler, didn't help matters, either. He also drained huge amounts of his resources on "The Final Solution" depriving his troops of much needed material to conduct war. The battle for Stalingrad was a turning point in the war. Hitler sustained huge losses there. As the German army froze its ass off on the eastern front during the winter of 1941-1942, Hitler told them not to make unreasonable demands when his generals asked for much needed supplies. That's basically my take on it, in a nutshell.
