  1. Gun control won't happen, regardless of whether a few Republicans cave in on the issue. Anyone capable of thinking about it for a half a minute (I admit that narrows the field considerably) will realize that no additional legislation against guns would have stopped Stephen Paddock. He finessed the existing regulations to amass an arsenal. There are already enough weapons in possession of ordinary citizens for us, if we wanted to, to invade and conquer Russia. How would a ban on this or that weapon or accessory do anything to protect us from some publicity-seeking nut going haywire and committing another mass murder? The Left, as usual, is exploiting public sentiment in the aftermath of a tragedy to increase the power of government. They look forward to mass killings. They're a springboard for their agenda. With cars, vans and trucks it's another matter. They shut their trap when, as was done recently in Barcelona, a maniac deliberately runs over dozens of people on a crowded street. Nobody proposes background checks on applicants for driver's licenses, much less banning sales of certain types of vehicles. In those instances the Left contents itself with hand wringing. A "give up your guns program" will never work in this country.
