All
People were more formal and dignified back then. All the women are in dresses.
3
@jptaylor Lots of older pre-war cars people wee hanging on to.
3
@PK-uh2yz Wow! I'm sorry you had such an experience after making an effort to do something kind. I'll remember your story if I ever contemplate helping out a homeless person.
3
What do these streets look like today? People dressed like slobs, homeless encampments and not a car anywhere worth looking at. How much we let slip away.
3
@NASS_0 Thank you. I have a 50 Buick to do when I get to it.
3
@songwriter124 The honking horns are dubbed in and I presume by your critique you think today's LA is an improvement; just what I'd expect from a left coast liberal or at least one who thinks that way. How do you know the guy on the bench is homeless? Today's 2-legged trash, I presume, is preferable?
3
@songwriter124 I took my que from you!
3
Everyone nicely dressed. No litter on the streets. Interesting how many pre-war cars were still on the road then. I wonder if anyone in this video is still alive and might recognize themselves?
3
I think it's a 49. The limo used the old body style for one more year.
3
I haven't seen any cars newer than '49, so I guess that's the year. Between car and trolly traffic, the rails embedded n the pavement stay nice and shiny. I suppose these sidewalks are littered with trash and homeless vagrants today; not well dressed people going about their business feeling perfectly safe.
3
I'm sure it's worse today. Haven't been in the Ironbound Section in years and doubt I'll ever go back.
3
tai’s magical audio potions Says who? There's way more to it than a trolley.
3
@LVΡΝ 1 That's what I was thinking.
3
@philbooth4384 Glad to hear it.
3
The newest car I saw was 46 or 47.
3
The newest car I saw was a 50.
3
They wanted total war. They got it. Hitler's gone and your new masters are here.
2
Beautiful. Id' sure like to pay a visit back there for a while. Maybe sty forever. I saw a new 47 Buick in one shot. I guess that's the year.
2
Yellow is actually a much easier color for the eye to discern than red or green.
2
Truck didn't even slow down.
2
@michaels.5878 Oftentimes I do, too.
2
It would make me sick. I'd like to jump into this scene and look around for awhile.
2
You listened to the radio back then, if you had one.
2
The only drawback might be mandatory military service.
2
Everyone seems to want to get back to Buffalo. Of course at that time there were good jobs to be had.
2
My father lived through the depression and used to complain about it a lot. He pumped gas for $1/day, 7 days a week and played in a 4 piece band on Saturday nights at a local club. 50 some years later he stated things weren't all the bad, they had a lot of fun and he'd like to relive some of those days.
2
@PK-uh2yz CA doesn't have to welcome them.
2
The newest car I saw was 1954 so I'm assuming that's the year.
2
@culturehorse You noticed that, too!
2
The only thumbs down I gave to any comments on this video.
2
@songwriter124 I can't believe what an issue you're making over history footage of LA and mostly the cars people enjoy watching. Go to hell!
2
@sonnycorleone2602 I noticed Ambush on the Marque, but am not familiar with it.
2
Not a vagrant, an addict, discarded hypodermic needles or a pile of human feces to be seen! There aren't even any parking meters!! What the hell is wrong? I know: The mayor, Elmer Robinson, was a Republican.
2
@clintonflynn815 And nobody games the system today?
2
Very nice image quality. Someone had a good camera.
2
They're working.
2
IKR! What a shame!
2
Kids in baby carriages would be the only ones still alive.
2
Newest car I saw was a 64.
2
I like how they hang onto the trolley running boards and don't even wait for it to stop to get off. How would ha go over today?
2
Not hard to understand.
2
The early part of the video showed Checker taxi cabs. The NY section was DeSotos.
2
Why am I not surprised? It was solid middle class here.
2
Anyone notice the Bomb Shelters advertised for $795?
1
Amazing there was so much traffic back then. The cars certainly are crowding out the trolleys.
1
I wonder what line he's riding on? Some kind of elevated subway?
1
It's really tough identifying the pre-war cars from behind, but I was able to pick out a few of them.
1
The newest car I see is 1962 so I guess that's the yar.
1
@aaronvadovic4023 Interesting. Makes sense.
1
I wonder if it could be lightened up?
