The only 2 people that could answer that question are trapped in the sub.

The instant contact was lost those on the surface houd have swung into action.

My thoughts exactly. As a life long Titanic enthusiast I was thrilled when it was found, but never had any desire to go there. I'll say on land and look at pictures!

The Titanic's not elusive anymore. We know right where it is. Maybe that's the problem. We should stay awy from it.
5
Don't blame you. Same here.
5
Somebody dropped the ball on that one.
4
Agreed. When Ballard discovered it he vowed no to touch anything. But other opportunists couldn't' stay away.

All I know is I've feared this might happen ever since the ship was discovered. Numerous expeditions to the wreck have been successful. Luck has finally run out.

Titan, and other subs, had completed many successful missions to the Titanic. Maybe people were overconfident? Captain Smith was, too.

@815donalduck Perhaps it crashed to the ocean floor then ruptured. If it went silent after 90 minutes that was the time to abort the mission and come to the surface unless it had already imploded but at that time it hadn't yet reached the wreck site. Millions of unanswered questions.
3
How did other people explore it? We have equipment but how long it takes to deploy it is the problem.
3
I wonder bout that, too.
3
People don't want to give up hope. Not until it's known for sure what happened.
2
But we don't know for sure what happened. All we can do right now is speculate.
2
Yes. Everyone has to do that.
2
I hate the thought of the wreckage of the Titan next to the Titanic. It's a possibility. Another grave.
2
Superstition.
2
111 years later the Titanic is front page news once again and as with the original event, it's not good news.
2
Especially 12500 feet below the surface of the ocean.
1
Just like Titanic's millionaires, their money won't save them.
1
Exactly.

The billionaire's estate may well be billed or perhaps his heirs will donate volunatarily.
1
But why? It was secure when launched.
1
Who's Aquaman? I wonder what Robert Ballard thinks of all this.
1
Never give up.
1
The name is Robert Ballard.
