Comments by "g bridgman" (@1940limited) on "OceanGate adviser: Help for missing Titanic submarine held up by paperwork | Dan Abrams Live" video.
A rather broard assumption is being made here that 5 people are sitting quietly in the submarine on the ocean floor waiting to be miraculous rescued.

The sub lost contact with the surface 90 minutes into the decent. They hadn't even reached the wreck at that point. If it imploded there might be something that floats to the surface. Or maybe they're sitting on the ocean floor wondering what will happen next. It's terrifying.

With 7 different ways to surface even without power I'm sure they were secure in the belief nothing could go wrong.

If the sub imploded it was instant. If they're sitting on the ocean floor with oxygen running out, a terrible way to go.
7
I, too, fear the worst. They would have deployed the emergency surfacing equipment long ago if they could.
7
I don't know if it's possible to organize a rescue. The sub weighs 23000 pounds. How do they get that to the surface? If emergency resurfacing equipment worked, it would be on the surface by now.

We can't expect the government to run sightseeing tours of the Titanic. It had to be in the private sector or not at all. Apparently quite a few people wanted to do this and had the money. This company has done many successful drives to the ship. This time their luck ran out.

That's assuming there is one. Where's Robert Ballard?
4
They did have one: 7 ways to resurface even if power failed. At this point I think 12500 feet of strong cable and a way to attach it to the sub seems to be the only way to rescue.

Just wanted to see the rusted, mangled remains of the world's most famous ocean liner.
3
The sub had 7 different methods to resurface in an emergency. that's plenty of backup. Something else has gone wrong. I fear the worst.
3
I wonder if they're sitting in total darkness in addition to all the other scary thoughts. That's assuming the sub is still intact.
3
The owner of the sub was the pilot so he scammed himself out of his own life? I don't think so. I'm sure they thought it was safe with 7 different ways to surface even without power. They would certainly have done that by now. I'm afraid the sub somehow ruptured and imploded. Some wreckage might float to the surface. Who knows?
3
The company only had one sub. Probably too expensive to have two, Even the Titanic had a nearly identical sister ship, but it did no good on the night of the sinking.

@KyRipsnorter Some wreckage might float to the surface.
2
As was stated when Ballard found the wreck in 1985, if anything goes wrong you might as well be on the moon.
2
I doubt any missions to the ship will be done ever again. Intense interest in the wreck may even subside.

I assume you're being sarcastic.
1
Like the captain of the Titanic, the owner of the sub was onboard and won't survive if the worst has happened. Regardless, this company is out of business.
1
Not at those depths.
1
They did. 7 way to resurface even if power fails. If possible they would have done that by now. It's not looking good.
1
Maybe some wreckage will float to the surface. If so then we will know what happened.
1
It's possible. Remains of the sub would be scattered all over the ocean floor if it imploded.
1
The owner of the company was onboard with 4 people only one of which has been identified: The billionaire from UK.
1
Whenever government gets involved everything bogs down.
1
The billionaire onboard has more than enough to pay u once he's back on the surface and will probably gladly do it. When the Titanic originally sank many wealthy people were onboard. Their money couldn't save them. 111 years later it may have happened again. How ironic.
1
It's too dangerous for me to even think about. Every time anyone launched an expedition to the wreck I held my breath. This time I think luck ran out.
1
That may be just what happened. I never had any desire to go to the wreck. I've been a lifelong Titanic enthusiast but I'm perfectly happy to stay on land and look at pictures.
1
Vain attempt at humor?

They were 90 minutes into the dive before communication was lost. That's still an hour from the wreck but in very deep water.
