  2. Italy made a comeback with ocean liners with the Doria and nearly identical sister ship the Cristoforo Colombo, a nearly identical sister. It's a terrible tragedy what happened to the Andrea Doria.

  4. When my aunt's passport expired in 1940 she took the Conte di Savoia back to New York. She had been in Europe since 1932. The Rex was certainly an intriguing ship, but our family has no history with that liner.

  5. An almost impossible task, I know, but maybe Robert Ballard could find the wreck. There must be something on the ocean floor.

  6. I never cared for the QE2 compared to the odl Cunard queens but as time went on the ship seemed more acceptable. It's interesting that the mechanical flaws, some from day one, never plagued the original Queens. Things definitely aren't built like they used to be.
