No way will the electoral college be replaced. New York City and Los Angeles don't get to decide for the entire nation who will be president. If minorities had a brain in their head, they'd vote GOP. Maybe after Trump, they will. Had Hillary won, regardless of the popular, she'd love the electoral college. Who says all the power is concentrated in the hands of whites? Regardless of that, the nation is still 70% white. They don't count for anything?

Alex Screeton The reason Hillary won the popular vote, which is disputed, is because a ton of liberal in NYC and Los Angeles poured out to vote for her. That doesn't give them authority to decide who will be president for the rest of the nation which was geographically mostly GOP. If you Google the electoral college you will understand in about 10 minutes why we have it, how it works and why Trump won. He's not the first president to lose the popular but win the election. .

Alex Screeton No, not if that majority it concentrated in tow or three densely populated areas of the country. That over rides the voice of the rest of the nation. That's why we have an electoral college.

Jonny .F If you look at an election map broken down nationwide by county, you see about 80% red. So the excessive votes for Hillary came from somewhere. I'm sure from states she took anyway. She didn't win enough states to get the required 270 votes as she took time off, let the clock run out, let the media do her campaigning for her and simply assumed in her arrogance and condescension she would win. What a loud wake up call came about on November 8! I wonder if Hillary won enough electoral votes but Trump won the popular vote if we'd be hearing so much commotion over the election?

Jonny .F The electoral college does not decide the election. Electors confirm that the state they represent cast it's votes for the person that won the popular vote in that state. Yes, there can be faithless electors, but it's very rare that this happens and it's never thrown an election in the nation's history. With the electoral college, every state in the union has a voice in who gets elected, not just those with the biggest populations. Usually a president will win both the electoral college and the popular vote. In this case, Hillary didn't make it. it's not the first time it's happened, either. If Trump won the popular vote but Hillary got the needed number of electoral votes and won the election, would there be all this talk about it?

Jonny .F Keep in mind that only a small portion of electors have ever defected regardless of how the law reads. Some states require the elector to vote for the popular candidates. Some do not, but very few people defect and never enough to change an election outcome. In the end, two people didn't vote for Trump. Five people didn't vote for Hillary. It was all irrelevant. But every state had a voice in the election.

Jonny .F Then I would suggest revising the laws to force electors to vote the popular results in their state so there can be no defectors. The idea behind allowing them to vote for another person was in case someone totally unsuitable for the office were to get enough votes to win. It's never happened in the nation's history. I do not believe the electoral college is ever going to be abolished. The country is too large and diverse to allow a few population centers on the coasts to decide for everyone. This country is a representative republic, not a true democracy. I doubt we are going to fundamentally change the nation any time soon.

Jonny .F I think those billionaires are going to make good economic decisions for the entire nation, not just themselves. Hell, Trump's not even taking a salary to do the job. You're not going to see the electoral college abolished or the way we elect our presidents any time soon, if ever. You'll never muster enough support within government or even the population. Many people support the electoral college because they know how it works and why we have it. That's just reality.

Jonny .F People do get a choice in the matter regardless of how the law is written. The electoral college has never changed the outcome of an election in the nation's history even though many of the electors are not legally bound to vote for the popular person in their state. It's there as a safeguard for extreme situations but it has never been implemented that way. Many electors are bound by law to vote the popular choice from their state. Others do it out of moral obligation even if they do not like the candidate. The few that defected have never changed the outcome of an election. You just saw in in 2016: 5 faithless for Hillary; two for Trump. How ironic that Trump beat her out once again!

Jonny .F Listen, the EC isn't going away. You guys have to get a grip and accept reality: Trump's president fair and square by the laws of the land. The election system will not change any time soon if at all. I wonder if Hillary got the 270 electoral votes but Trump won the popular vote would there still be all this commotion? It's not a matter of the electoral college. The issue is that a lot of people don't like Trump and cannot come to grips with the fact the dems ran a lousy candidate and Trump won. That's it. Party over.
