  2. Omar Mateen is an embarrassment, but I don't think the FBI's giving him a pass will provoke Comey's resignation. Unless Obama colludes with the press to make it a red herring to distract attention from, and perhaps even derail, the Clinton probe. I don't think that will happen and here's why: Obama's spin on the Orlando atrocity is that it was an act of vengeance against the gay community and further evidence that we're a violence-prone society obsessed with owning machine guns to kill children, minorities and homosexuals. He doesn't want to make a big deal out of the gunman's having been a self-professed agent of ISIS. It would upset the Muslims. Going after Comey for the FBI's failure to keep an eye on Mateen would emphasize that the incident was yet another act of radical Islamic terror, which for Obama would be counterproductive.
