  2. I'm not a pessimist, but it's foolish to ignore reality. The country has fallen into a period of decadence. The old culture is dying, or being killed, and a new one is evolving to take its place. The best of the old culture may survive to fortify the new, but that's neither obvious at the moment nor guaranteed. We have two or three generations that have grown up in permissive circumstances. They've been taught by incompetent parents to expect their needs to be met without their having to put forward any effort to deserve it. It's been said 75% of Millennials are still being supported by their parents––adults in their twenties and thirties! Both the parents and these drones vote. Along the way some very questionable ideas have achieved currency––diversity and multiculturalism among them. Feelings are primary. They win out over principle and even law. What's going on in California is a microcosm of the nation as a whole. It would be very unwise to underestimate the power of the segment of the population that espouses these ideas, or the danger they represent to the well-being of all, including themselves.
