The security camera should have everything that transpired before the accident.

TheCladi8or I cannot wait for more details to emerge on this case. How fast was he going? Did he in fact ask the kids of they wanted to die? Is this possibly terrorism? If it is that's means they're targeting children, now, too.

It's $10,000/bus for seat belts times how many thousands are nation wide? That's why they don't have them. If you think it doesn't get down to money, you are mistaken. Even without seat belts school buses are still the safest way for the kids to get to school; not mommy's car. Even if his statement was some sick joke, you never talk to kids that way. The bus was not cut in half. If you Google the accident, there's pictures of the bus as it was being hauled away. It was intact. If he was speeding that alone is evidence of reckless disregard for the kid's safety. Please be advised the company operates 13,000 school buses. That's a huge operation.

My thoughts exactly.

MrSnyper360 That doesn't excuse speeding and driving erratically. Plus you don't suggest to the kids they might die even if in jest or in the heat of a moment when you're stressed.

Really, they're not paid nearly enough for the responsibility and aggravation they are expected to take on. Maybe that's part of the problem?

I'm waiting for that, too. The bus behind him should also have video tape that would help in the investigation. The cameras record what's going on in front of you as well as inside the bus.

amoz lee In the case of a bad enough accident, they won't help. A good driver that keeps his kids under control is the safest form of school transportation. If you get rear-ended by a tri-axle dump truck or some other unfortunate tragedy that's no fault of your own, seat belts aren't going to matter very much. It also creates liability issues. Who's responsible for making sure the kids are bucked up and stay that way?

Penelope Powell It could have been a suicide mission, but he happened to survive. I still want to know why he was off his normal route. I've read it will be 12-18 months to complete the investigation. Why so long? Just ask the damn driver what happened!

Paige Smith Regardless of how ill behaved small children may or may not be on a school bus, you do not drive at excessive speeds or otherwise handle the bus in an unsafe manner. You keep your wits about you. Get them home ASAP. Talk to the parents at the bus stop. Pull the bus over and address the students and report bad behavior to school administration. Treating kids with kindness and respect always works. They will come to like you and will want to obey you. It's really pretty simple. If you are unable to do this perhaps you do not have the temperament to drive a school bus. There is no excuse for handling the bus in an unsafe manner whether it be loaded or empty. The driver is the responsible adult. Having an accident such as this puts this guy in very serious trouble. No one's going to use bad behavior of the kids as a defense of his bad driving. I know. I've been driving a school bus for 11 years.

Paige Smith No one's attacking you. I just expressed my opinions and thoughts on the subject. I think we basically agree with each other. Happy bussing! :-)
