  3. From 1954 on data plates said "Studebaker-Packard." IMHO 1953 was the last real Packard. 53s still had the gas pedal starter same as Buick from 34-60.

  15. What astounds me is not only the manufacturing process but the equipment designed and built to form the metal into it's various shapes. Then people have to design the process. Operators are skilled people, too. Seems we can't do anything like this in America anymore.

  18.  @geocam2  What does 80K per year on an assembly line have to do with government? Conservatives object to high taxation, waste, corruption and inefficiency in government. Pennies on the dollar ultimately reach the intended purpose. The rest is gobbled up in administrative costs. No one's saying government does nothing, but they do an awful lot not very well.

  28. It's amazing how long the metal stays hot enough to be malleable. I never heard of thrown sawdust on parts so they won't stick. Very interesting.

  31. I wonder how well the system held up under driving conditions with rain, snow, salt, rust and corrosion. How did that motor hold up? The torsion suspension in 55-56 Packards has always caused me to shy away from them. Nice to look at, but I wouldn't want to own one.

  46. Damn! That's much more shocking than Signal 30, but it drives an important message home. Today's cars with improved safety features don't make all the much difference when you're impaired, traveling at high speed or simply careless. Head ons are still the worst and still happen.
