The St. Louis is famous for it's ill fated trip in 1939 from Hamburg to Cuba, the US and Canada in an effort to save about 900 Jews onboard. No country would take them so it returned home, where about 250 of its passengers did ultimately die in concentration camps.

Too bad the Amerika never came to fruition. What a ship that would have been.

Two other ships built under Adolph Hitler that were pretty nice, but weren't ocean liners, were the Robert Ley and Wilhelm Gustloff, identical sister ships. The Gustloff is noted for having been torpedoed by the Russians in the Baltic Sea close to the end of the war with some 9000 refugees onboard, most of whom died. The Russians were ruthless in their treatment of the Germans.
