Before Dodd-Frank, which addressed issue arising from the GFC, there was FIRREA which arose out of the 87 to 93 period which wrecked the entire Savings and Loan industry which was the primary source of mortgage loans. This acronym stood for Financial Institutions Reform and Recovery Enforcement Act. It was implemented to prevent a repeat of that period which also was real estate based. How well did it work? 12 or so years later we entered the GFC. Now, here we are again about another 12 years with the same apparent circumstances. Different this time? Or maybe 3rd time a charm.
