There was no interference, Diefenbaker was against the military and wanted to selfishly lean on Americans for defense in turn destroying Canada's ability to produce fighter aircraft.

You are unresearched on this topic and parroting nonsense. In fact the US Air Force looked at asking Congress to assist funding the aircraft in the interest of NORAD. Your PM Diefenbaker was against military spending which is the norm in Canada and cancelled those aircraft when the Brits took an interest in test flying them.

@thitran1362 The only US involvement was the USAF lobbying Congress to fund it because American allies were so useless and poor much like we see so-called NATO members still not paying 2% of GDP for defense. Canada is at 1.36% in 2023 which is a disgrace to NATO. Canadians need to take responsibility for their own politicians making ignorant decisions and when they try to blame Americans(Trudeau) need to be removed from office. Americans make their own technology and continue to push out technology that other countries can't produce.

@rollydoucet8909 Canadians can't really catch up because the culture is incredibly Marxist and entitled. Many of the creative people and entrepreneurs in Canada simply leave due to the lack of support for gifted people. In most of the Canadian public schools they don't even have lunch programs and people work pay check to pay check everywhere. Even most of the immigrants stick to safe careers like accounting and take very little risks. After Ottawa shutting down all of these small businesses not giving two shits good luck on finding more entrepreneurs. Canada has announced to the world that if you go here we will shut your business down and freeze money because we feel like it.

As an American air force veteran that lived in Canada for years the absurd conspiracies about how Americans were "jealous" of this aircraft is laughable and embarrassing for Canada as a whole. Anyone who has ever worked for government can clearly see Diefenbaker's politics where that he avoided defense spending and he would rather have the Americans put up all of the money and do most of the work. The US Air Force even looked at lobbying Congress for funding for the Canadians as the US Air Force was very concerned that these poor European and Commonwealth countries were underfunding their militaries in the face of the growing Soviet threat. Once the Brits expressed interest in testing the aircraft Diefenbaker had the aircraft destroyed to cover his ass politically knowing full well if the aircraft was exceptional he would look incompetent.
