Insurgents are foreigners aka the Islamists from as far as China to Malaysia to all over the Middle East. These people were recruited and equipped by Syria and Iran and sent in to kill Iraqis and Sunnis. Iraq Shiites and Sunnis would rather murder each other and steal from their own citizens than unify and defend their territory. Your revisionist history is dishonesty at its finest and you are urinating on the graves of troops killed and wounded(later suicide) after Iranian IED and mines were consistently deployed for nearly a decade.

Under Saddam there was no 8 year war complete with chemical weapons, suppression of the Shiite Muslims, genocide of the Kurds, firing SCUDS into Tel Aviv, invading and pillaging Kuwait, and chasing WMD weapons programs including an operational nuke reactor. Before the US went there it was peaceful with the rivers were chocolate and the sidewalks were made of rainbows 😂
