  1. Korea was dirt f-ing poor in 1960. It’s literally the best economic story of the late 20th century. Life ain’t perfect and concessions were made to jumpstart growth. Park Chung Hee’s greatest achievement was his dogged pursuit of infrastructure investment. Other poor countries during this same time period just stole money and didn’t invest back into the country. Obviously, there are reforms around the edges, but there are always going to be limitations. The best paying jobs are with the big chaebols.

  2. The same shit is happening with energy right now. It’s to an even greater degree since people can manipulate commodity prices via the futures market.
