The sword draw at the end is pretty impressive. Watched it in slow mo.

I'd take your situation any day of the week. My Korean was worse than yours. I wish I only had problems with an accent and could understand weird questions.

@Hope12Grace90 0:32 pink heart girl? or 1:10 girl with dotted shirt?
1
@Hope12Grace90 Yeah, her shirt looks tinted with "some" color, but it wasn't obvious. Interesting since the pink heart girl looks the least Korean. And, the dotted shirt girl looks the most Korean. (this is only my opinion as someone who grew up in the states, but visited Korea many different times.)
1
Actually, the real ending is different. Hint: she lives in Korea now.

Here’s the problem: there are no “rules” you can set to make entertainment people exempt. It’s clearly subjective. I think Korean Americans are more proud of BTS than native Koreans due to their worldwide impact. Yes, there are exemptions for sports, but that’s something easily defined and to a degree, they are representing their country for no pay. A bit more nationalist than the entertainment business.
1
@D. Va They get (relatively small) stipends for playing for the national team. Athletes get exemptions for winning in international competition, not with their club teams. This is pretty standard for all international athletes.

I think sitting on the floor cross legged is another things Koreans do all the time with ease as well. Although, I have trouble doing the sitting in a kneeled position. Ouch, that position hurts. I think we learn the squatting position as kids. It just comes naturally after that.

@jenniferoakes5069 I'm going to take a guess and say you live in a non-urban area and / or not on the West Coast. I think people that are raised in Hawaii, LA, SF, Seattle or parts of East Coast cities would say there isn't a stereotypical Asian.
1
@jenniferoakes5069 While I don't speak for all Asians, but I've lived in several different states. Here's what "can" happen: Many Asians grow up in an area with very little diversity. I grew up in a suburb with less than 5 Asian families out of 25,000 people. Essentially, there was no other people to identify with and / or date. And if I did see the random Asian person in school or at a party, my natural instinct was to not talk to that person. Yeah, kids / teens think oddly. I just wanted to fit in and not be like I'm Asian, she's Asian and everyone expects us to hook up. After high school things were much different and didn't care what other people thought. Eventually, I moved to an area where race was never a factor. (Looking back, I wish I had talked to the few Asian people that were around me in high school.)

12+ hours at a minimum???
1
Whew. Not sure if I’d have the strength to do all that rehab she went through. (I guess I know why many condo buildings only allow electric stoves.)
1
Acting and Kpop have taken over the pagaents. Even former Miss Korea’s try to move over to acting. And English while taught is not Korea’s strength. It eliminates a lot of contestants immediately.

I feel that blaming the negative comments is a small piece of the puzzle. She moved into the SM dorms at a very young age. She was a child actress and then transitioned into f(x). That doesn’t seem like the healthiest environment for anyone to develop mental and social skills for life as an adult. In the US, you see “child” stars go down the wrong path all the time and the ones that do well are usually due to strong parental guidance. Combine all those factors with her not working for 2-3 years and you have a potential disaster waiting to happen. I’m sure a lot of her self worth was tied to being an entertainer. Yes, malicious comments may have contributed, but IMO, are not the root cause.
1
Ahh, this is old school. When they put the kids on the plane and parents didn’t travel to the country.
1
Always notice how growing up in America makes us look less Korean (with adoptees, 1.5 and 2nd generation). Still waiting for the fobby looking Korean adoptee.
1
People are commenting on her English: she graduated from Dickinson College. No way can you survive there without being fluent in English. There used to be a ton of LA, NYC and Boston students who weren't fluent in English that survived without English fluency (this was a while ago).
1
Man, it’s annoying to hear westerners comment on answers by Japanese and their culture. We feel like we know everything and listen to no one.
1
Those are still “big” cities. IMO, opinions would be the same.
1
No love for Haruka Ayase? sad.
1
My female Korean relative always links her arm with mine when we are walking outside when I visit in Korea. Ugh, if my sister did that in the states, I'd feel awkward.
1
2 f-ing hours to get ready?
1
It will happen in 5-10 years. Many of the Chinese adoptees are too young to interview.
1
I'm going to take the unpopular take here: the music industry has been notoriously bad for their contracts. Trainees / parents need to read the contracts and realize its a long shot with a lot of downside risk.

@ The Chinese banking system is over 2x the size as the US. Hyper inflated and Hyper inflation aren't the same thing.
1
@havocrein Any graph showing Chinese debt levels growing faster than GDP will be your answer my friend.
1
@ You literally just said China isn't hyperinflated. Nope, China isn't hyperinflated, it's banking system is mostly state controlled and far more manageable, it doesn't use short term hot money gained from high intrest state loans to stimulate spendings, that kind of economic policies won't last. China is in a FAR better position.
1
@ Do you own a condo / real estate in China?
1
@havocrein You should read the Michael Pettis FT article, "China's debt isn't the problem. It's a symptom of the problem."
1
@ Don't blame me. Blame YT. My question was for the Chengdu guy.
1
@ The problem for a middle income country driven by exports is wages. They serve competing masters. Low wages are needed to produce low cost goods. But, low wages result in less buying buying. This is why China has a low consumption as a % of GDP. They have been unwilling to take the necessary hard steps to convert their economy. No high population country in modern times has escaped the middle income trap. Very unlikely China will be the first.
1
@justadad6871 How much have real estate prices fallen by? Do you work in China? Are you employed by a local company? I'm trying to figure out your anecdotal ex-pat opinion and compare it to an average local person. The girl in the video literally said rents have dropped by half.
1
@havocrein Higher wages for people and keeping cost of living low is nearly impossible to achieve. They are competing with each other. Additionally, tech and innovation is not good for countries that have a mass of unskilled labor. Inefficiency is good for jobs. Go watch the film Secret of my Success from the 1980s. You literally had people delivering memos in companies.
1
@justadad6871 Yeah, using personal experiences to explain an economy is problematic. I made over 5x the median income in 2008. My rent / utilities were <25% of my salary. I had no car loan. When the recession hit, my salary got cut by -15% and I had cut 10% of the positions on my team at work. My life didn't change. Everything was fine and my favorite restaurant had less wait time. But, many many many other people were getting hurt economically.
1
Man, I've been to relatively inexpensive room salons / bars in Korea and the girls were 10x more interesting than this girl. And that's with my broken Korean and no friend to translate.
1
Ouch. This yo-yo dieting is destroying their metabolism forever. 2000 calories that used to maintain your weight will need to be reduced to 1750. It’s so terrible.
1
Host’s Korean is very soft spoken and calming. Host’s English is enthusiastic with a mix of Korean / Californian accent.
1
And she lives in Korea now. Seemed like that was the path it was going.
1
America ain’t easy either. Growing up Asian in a white neighborhood killed my self confidence until I moved away for college. And, Asians are supposed the “good” minority group.
1
Whoa on so many levels.
1
When I was a kid my teeth were going to come in crooked (not enough space), so the dentist just pulled a couple. It wasn’t very expensive. Having to make wholesale changes as an adult would seem very difficult.
1
@cheekyanimations2903 Maybe not now due to her diet. But, she was pretty big for the first few years.
1
@Jane-ch9yb China has been known to fabricate its economic data. They aren't letting outside organizations in to evaluate the transmission rates / deaths. That should be the first warning bell. Again, any over precaution can be translated to them lying about the deaths / transmission cases.
1
5:18 What??? That clothing is really deceptive then.
1
Medicine has advanced so much and there is a pill that can prevent the spread of HIV if you are high risk person. F-ing shame that preventive measures aren’t more readily available.
1
Your post seems rather angry. Having empathy for a society and people that live in that society softens critical judgement. I never had any anger about being adopted (I was fortunate about being adopted by good parents).
1
My biggest bar tab was $5K...but that was for like 100 people at work (+tip).
1
Wow, SNSD trained forever before their debut. Less than 2 years is very short.
1
KAL flight attendants are the greatest concentration of beauty in Korea. Modeling is dominated by celebrities vs US celebrities tend to shy away from ads / commercials.
1
@pikachuthunderbolt3919 It's not that crowded. Especially, if you go outside of Seoul.
