  1.  @Meonium  Being pale is a viewed as a positive in East Asian countries. Still has a subtle meaning of upper class as you aren't working outside and getting tan.

  2.  OM G  Beauty is all about marketing. Obviously, it's subjective. But, the mass appeal via Kpop and Kdramas is data that would refute your statement.

  3.  @AgentJ2007  Ginger seems to be on the extreme level. 2 things happen in Korea: (1) most people don't have cars to commute to work ie they have to walk to public transportation. (2) The diets are mostly vegetable / soup based. While famous for meat restaurants in the states, people don't eat like that daily.

  4. I think the dichotomy here is that most countries view pageants as a quasi-business. Seems like she jumped into the pageant with a lot less training then others.

  5. Acting and Kpop have taken over the pagaents. Even former Miss Korea’s try to move over to acting. And English while taught is not Korea’s strength. It eliminates a lot of contestants immediately.

  6. People are commenting on her English: she graduated from Dickinson College. No way can you survive there without being fluent in English. There used to be a ton of LA, NYC and Boston students who weren't fluent in English that survived without English fluency (this was a while ago).
