1- actually it has been going steadily higher. I'm using FRED history and it aggregates it at the annual level which is a bit weird. Months have be compared with each year's same month for seasonality purposes. Too lazy to find month data. 2019: 10.7% 2020: 12.7% 2021: 12.4% 2022: 13.2% 2- Likely, but not necessarily it means companies went bust. The "Youth" age bucket is defined as 16-24. But, its tilted heavily towards the 22-24 age bucket (people that graduated from college). In theory, if all companies froze hiring in 2023, it could push the rate higher. 3- But, I agree with you. It's likely a combination of factors.

Not a fan of "planned" economies, but geez. You can't go full capitalist mode on the advanced education and not go full capitalist mode on your economy. These colleges are ripping kids off.

@hsibbur_staht People are idiots. They have zero knowledge of a subject and think they are experts. The commenter should get a rebate from his / her "education". It's not even critical thinking skills, but can't even use google.

Just not accurate for developed economies. People retire. New graduates come into the workforce to replace them. I'm going to make an assumption that many of the Chinese retirees aren't white collar. Stuff breaks down when economic cycles are condensed.

Have to comment on this again. It's literally people's job to analyze this type of data. And genius, Mr Cosmos (which seems like an insult to the word cosmos) thinks he found a hole in the statistics and claims they are reporting it wrong by a factor of 4. Let me put it in simplified English for a nitwit with an advanced degree to understand: IT'S ANYONE THAT IS LOOKING / WANTS A JOB IN THIS AGE BRACKET. THAT'S HOW IT'S DEFINED. - Are you 16-24? - Do you want to be employed? - Are you employed? THIS AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE.

@leahcasey2678 JFC. They've been doing these surveys for years. I think the statisticians know how to phrase questions. WHY DO RANDOM INTERNET PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY ARE THE EXPERTS IN ALL SUBJECT MATTERS? This ain't a political poll where they have to ask the same question multiple different ways because people have no clue on what their true opinions are. It's a binary answer. 10 10 10
