People don't realize how many weird stuff happening back in the '80s-'90s. No one was glued to the internet and watching a ton of crime shows 24-7. Homicides were nearly 24K and population was only 250M. Currently, (taking out the covid spike) homicides are in the mid-high teens with 100M more people.

@dc3174 Actually, this is an issue and what I am talking about. One, homicides are expected to be -16% lower than 2023 (and 2023 was 19,200). So, 2024 will be close to 16K when official figures come out. 16K is not 20K. That's a big difference. Two, again: we have way more people in the US vs 35 years ago. More people and the raw numbers should increase. Raw numbers have decreased even though population is up +30%. People are using anecdotal information and more media coverage to create a bias against the facts.
