That's about my brother's age difference. I was in 8th grade at age 12 and he was in 12th grade. And, as an 8th grader, I wouldn't want to hang out with 17 year old. Would have been weird to hang out with my brother and his friends.

You serious? A touched up school picture by a professional is going to look different than a mugshot in jail.

Even without the schizophrenia, you'd think the obvious change of pace is to let her speak about her life. And, then what she did in the past week leading up the the prior night. And, step by step walk through the last 24 hours.

@CountryKyle007 umm, because I had my own grouping of friends? And, would rather hang out with them. 4-5 years makes no difference when you are in your late 20s or 30s. It's a pretty big deal when you are 12.

It's tough. Obviously, as an adult now, I would do the right thing. Thinking back at my teenage years, I'm not so sure. All my high school friends were from middle school and I actually lived with my one friend for part of my senior year in high school. My guess it would be more of a passive intervention.

Obviously, not all kids whose parents divorce young go schizophrenic, but sure seems like it could have been a factor.

F-ing “religious” people. Makes them lose all type of problem solving and rational thought. Rather trust their “belief” in something and not the facts. That friend is crazy.

Basically happened in the rich suburbs of Baltimore. Kid went to Dulaney which a public school, but has more of a prep school feel.

Paying an outpatient person to take their meds is a "crazy" policy.

Was a pretty smart kid like her. Not AP level, but a step below. Got in trouble in high school as a few things snowballed (nothing that serious). 1- Had a part time job washing dishes in a restaurant. The dick that I was working decided to steal beer from the walk in. Was annoyed, but didn't say anything. He ended up getting caught and I got fired. 2- Didn't tell my parents and ended up going to a basketball game, but told my parents I was working. Parents called the restaurant and I got busted. 3- Was grounded and couldn't leave the house. Snuck out and went to my friend's house. Got busted and grounded again 4- Parents said I was going to get a drug test. And, if I turned out positive, I was going to rehab. (I think they found out I experimented with LSD and I was in counseling. Honestly, don't remember clearly the order.) 5- I said, "f it" and ran away from home. Went to my brother's place which was 8+ hours away, but he was deployed somewhere else. Stayed with his roommate who eventually drove me back to my hometown and I ended up staying with my friend and his family. I totally understand being cornered, having shitty logic and coming up with a "plan". BUT NO WAY DID IT EVER CROSS MY MIND TO KILL MY PARENTS.

Used to be a legalize all drugs person. I've revised it over time. Meth and opioid / opioid similar still need to be illegal.

The most American of American videos: - local cops don't care - have to know someone in the FBI that puts pressure on local police - lots of guns - dude owns 3 cars - Ashley Madison website - dude thought he was a genius criminal. Knew about CCTV as evidence, but was oblivious that CCTV is evidence

One of my good friends back in my teens / early 20s came from a “tough” neighborhood. His Dad was in and out of jail and he lived with his grandma. Somehow, he stayed away from most of the big trouble. But, his friend did deal weed and carried a gun. They were good guys though. Just trying to hustle a bit, but nothing evil. Dude was smart and things would have been way different if he grew up in the ‘burbs like me.

Kids cross the line between right and wrong even though they are aware. I stole money from my parents to play video games as a kid. But, we are talking about murder. It's a huge escalation.

Another homeschooled psycho.

I got in a pretty bad car accident as a teen, but got really lucky. Got about 20+ stitches since my head broke the car glass window (hatchback). Felt fine though. No real pain. And, my parents were worried sick when I went to bed. Checked on me every few hours.

The contrast of these detectives vs Isabella Guzman is jarring. These dudes hardly spoke for 2 hours while the detectives in the Guzman case broke every rule in the book for 2 hours straight.

@blacknight2149 State Dept is a big organization. The dude's public bio is a pretty normal employee. I doubt he was connected with the CIA, but it's possible.

I used to be pro-drug legalization. Still think lesser drugs should be legal. Not opioids or meth though. Coke is debatable.

Did the cops not frisk him? Seemed like they took a lot of risks because they wanted the interview to go well.

Forget that Texas is so big and looks like the town they live is near the Louisiana border.

No security cameras anywhere. No cell phone tracking. Pretty easy to kill people back then.

Such an amazing era back then. Parents just let us outside and expected us to be home by dark. And, if I was at a friend's house late, I would just walk home occasionally in the dark (never more than 1 mile though). No one thought twice about it. (Grew up in the suburbs of an East Coast city.)

WTF. The 18 year old girl got out after 9 years.

@starryskies113 I went to school when they didn't care about late birthdays. I was 5 when I started 1st grade and turned 6 halfway through school in Dec. Was 17 when I started college and turned 18 at the end of my first semester. Now days, many states would hold me back and shift me to the next class.

@Maria12457 Naw, my state (MD) didn't change the law until the 2000s. I was born in mid-Dec. I started 8th grade when I was 12. Turned 13 in Dec around the holiday break. My older sister was the exact opposite since her birthday is very early Jan, but she skipped a grade. So, she was in the same boat as me. I didn't realize it until later, but it's likely why I wasn't great at sports in high school. Generally, I was at least 1/2 year behind physically than some kids. But, I did take some community college classes during 5th / 6th grade and the SATs during 7th grade. That's a whole different story. And, I regressed majorly after that, lol.

At least this incel only wanted to kill his co-workers. Could have been much worse if he picked a busy shopping time on the weekend.
