Supply chains are tough to mobilize fast. Realistically, they wanted slow production in the past to give the contractors steady work and be able to retain your labor force. Can't have them idle, but at the same time can't have them work too fast.

Nope. The main factory is in Scranton, PA pre-Russian invasion. The Pentagon dragged their feet a bit and has extended contracts to expand production to other factories. GD has a factory in Wilkes-Barre that produces as well. Then, they get shipped to another factory to get explosive arming.

Sounds like Bulgaria is producing them for $500 a piece (not including packing, shipping, etc). Likely, 2x that for US production.

@typxxilps Welcome to the Pentagon. They moved extremely slow in the beginning. We have no factories and have to build more capacity. There was no backup plan. Currently, production is 28K per month up from 14K. In 2024, US 155mm production will be 1M per year (80K / month). 1.2M in 2025 (100K / month). The bulk of the 2021 155mm shell acquisition costs were going to...the expensive guided shells not the standard m975 shell. Woefully, small acquisition in 2021. The budget request would provide for the Army to buy 75,357 M795 rounds, which would support training and the service's war reserve.

DPA would be enacted. Production would be up and running by now if this was a hot war.

@MakintheMeats Not hot for the US. Remember, we spend $50B on the MRAP program when we were in a hot war. That program funding was a rounding error in the total cost of the Double wars.
