  1. The biggest change to Kdramas is…who is getting content control. Nearly all of the big hits on streaming only have been film people. Kingdom is the notable big exception. Basically, you have these film people that are getting to do their pet projects. These “short” dramas are more like extended films to a degree. The US started doing this with some of the HBO series. Squid Game, DP, Move to Heaven, Narco Saints are all first time “tv drama” directors.

  2. The long episodes 100+ (usually 30 min) are the Korean version of daytime soaps. It’s for housewives and shop owners. The 50+ (1 hour) is the KBS weekend drama which is very family friendly.
