  1. While it may or may not be the cause of death, it's a real issue in Korea. Homicides are extremely low. Not Japan low, but near the bottom. But, when you add homicides + self-deaths, it's an astronomical number. In the US, people self-medicate using drugs and overdoses are astronomical. In the end, it evens out about the same. I'll concede that self-deaths cause less direct harm to others. The Choi Jin-sil is the incident that opened my eyes and was like, "what the heck is happening?".
