  1. It's because Korea wasn't very modern or educated until 40-50 years ago. Much slower than the west (Japanese occupation, War, poverty etc). When I first went to Korea and asked for water from my relatives, they gave me tea (cold barley tea). I'm guessing this is because the water wasn't great in past and they had to drink tea. I grew up drinking tap water in the States.

  2. 2:45 usually, I'm impatient when people are slow(er) talkers. But, I appreciate it in Korean since my Korean sucks. I can listen hard and try to hear all the syllables.
