  1. Yes, this is the concept of sunk cost in business. You have to ignore the past money you put into the business and rationally look at the numbers going forward.

  2. Big pharma in the US has been sucking the lifeblood out of the people for decades through high drug prices. This is the one time they've come through big time. (Even though, they'll make a ton of profit as well.)
