Japan's modern industrialization has been for 70+ years. Korea's has been for 50+ years. China's has been for 30-40 years. Shoved too much growth into a small time period and didn't allow for things to happen naturally. Lots of unintended consequences.

6:36 reminds me of an inappropriate story early in my career after I graduated. Went to work for a Fortune 500 company after college. We had weekly staff meetings, but the offices were a bit cramped. Not enough meeting areas. (They were in the process of building new offices. We sat right near the CEO's office and he would come barging out into our area. Was a bit terrifying.) So, our Director would jam us into a small borrowed office for our weekly meetings (Was the VP's office, but he was in other meetings.) We are in the weekly meetings and for some reason (I have no idea why), I used to play with one of my female co-worker's hair during the meeting. Dunno, she had really pretty hair. But, I was entry level and she was 2 levels above me. I still have no idea why I did it and why she didn't reprimand me for doing it.

@rndmvar Well, haven't really thought this through 100%, but Japan is going through almost the opposite problem. They have all these established multi-generational businesses and no one wants to take them over. Pretty crazy. There is no such thing as a 3 generational business in CCP China because of Mao (except politics). A 2019 government report estimated that about 1.27 million small business owners would be 70 or older by 2025 and have no successors. Waves of closures will mean the loss of specialized craftsmanship, unique services and original restaurant recipes that make up Japan's social and cultural fabric, he said.

@typingcat Slow(er) industrialization allows for a middle class to develop. It allows ancillary businesses to sprout up and support industrialization efforts. You start getting expertise and multi-generational small businesses. Basically, a modern economy.
