Walmart paid <$3B for the 2nd biggest retailer in Africa. That's all you need to know about retail sales in Africa. Nordstrom has a bigger market cap than $3B.

@Onyx-Rose150 lol, you don't trade stocks. They literally trade off market cap on every single transaction. I don't think you understand the definition of market cap. (Amusingly, I think you have a cursory understanding of business and think market cap is...market size. It's not. Market cap or Market capitalization is the value of the business set by public markets.)

@ Yeah, good luck sport. You aren't even playing in the kiddie pool. You are standing outside the water. Market capitalization for a stock: shares outstanding * current traded price. I'm not sure why this is so difficult since the internet like...has this information. Source: Me, I literally have a degree in Finance.

@ (and, my instincts were right. For some reason, you are confusing market size with market cap.)

@ Markets and stock prices are supposed to be efficient. Any market share change will be accounted for in the financials statements via revenue / income. And thus, investors (traders) will price the stock differently which would change the market cap. Are you telling me you still haven't looked up the word "market cap" yet?

@Onyx-Rose150 I ain't reading your odd tangent story that has nothing to do with market cap. This isn't a gray area. It's very binary. It's a word definition. There is no wiggle room.

@Onyx-Rose150 We aren't debating what the proper or efficient value of the asset. We aren't talking about future growth potential with a forecast. There is nothing to debate. You seem to be one of those intentionally obtuse people who don't like to admit when they are wrong. Do you know how I avoid that? I don't comment on things with statement of fact when I don't know about anything about the subject matter. Like, I have nothing to add about quantum physics.

@Onyx-Rose150 Yeah, you still don't get it. The price paid for a company is their market cap. Why is this so hard of a subject for you? lol, what does race have to do with anything? If Walmart paid $3B for the 2nd biggest retailer in Asia, I'd say the same thing.

Since I have a rough ballpark of EBITA valuation ratios for retailers and margins, I can back into their current revenue without looking into their financial statements.
