Not discussing that the payouts for the pension system support the retired government workers instead of the public is borderline criminal.

@choiswimmer Actually, that's not how the US works. The Federal government has a separate pension plan: FERS which is a multi-tiered plan. But, it's backed by the government and is underfunded. Social security trust is a totally separate entity. State and local governments have their own pension plans.

@xuli3961 "Generally" OECD countries have transparent policies. Not so much in Winnie the Pooh land.

@gustavalexander8676 It's a social security fund with Chinese characteristics. Funds are intermixing with no differentiated accounting. No transparent payouts. No transparent fund projections. In short, social security funds are funding large pensions for government officials. The split is as bad as 55% of the payouts going to government officials and 45% going to the public.

@xuli3961 I have a degree in Finance. My senior year in college was spent working full time in a CFP office that focused on...wait for it...retirement plans for state government employees in the US. Have you ever taken an accounting class? Sure Jan. Go post Winnie the Pooh images on your local Chinese Weibo or Douyin account. Let's see what happens.
