Meanwhile in Korea, they freak out when their daily cases get above 100. They have a population of 50 million people.

@kianaone2610 It's not hard for Koreans to adopt in Korea. But, Koreans place a high value on "bloodlines". There can be some issues on parental rights. Some parents use orphanages as foster homes. They can't afford to raise them, so they put them in an orphanage, but still have contact with them. The kids can't be adopted if the parents haven't released parental rights.

@ericjson I'll disagree. The real reason that adoptions have gone down is the increase of orphanages and government assistance over the years. Additionally, the government has placed severe restrictions on foreign adoptions. Age restrictions, age difference restrictions, weight restrictions, income restrictions. It's a very extensive list.

@JessAyu Possibly, I think that's a debatable question about nature vs nurture. Adoptees and specifically twin adoptees are very good test cases for question. I'm adopted. I have 2 full younger blood siblings in Korea. I would argue my personality is more similar to my American father and brother. I think all cases are different, but I think nurture makes up a greater portion (more than 50%) of a person's personality and traits.

Dude - you don't have her ID number or something like that? Obviously hindsight is 20-20, but seems a bit irresponsible.

@davidjacobs8558 Many adoptees have met our birth families. I have a full blood related brother and sister. My Korean family paid for my plane ticket for our first meeting in Korea. Eventually, my brother and sister visited the states. They stayed with me for a week in the city that I lived and then we went to NYC to visit my Korean cousins for a week (yes, I have Korean relatives in the states). My sister was in a gap period and I invited her to live with me for 3 months. Yeah, it got weird after a while, but I don't regret it. I've been to Korea 10+ times and lived in Korea for a year. While my story is unique, it's not impossible. While I don't have a close relationship with my parents, I adore my little sister. I recently visited my Korean parents because they are getting old and wanted to make sure I saw them one last time. I'm glad I went the first time because I got to meet my grandmother and grandfather (Mom's family). They were in their 80s, but I got to see my grandmother before she died. She was a tough old woman who still went to the market, cooked and smoked into her 80s. My Dad's grandmother is still alive and is in her 90s.

F-ing dumb. Student loans are over $1 trillion.

@udin2842 You need a math class. We give $50B a year in foreign aid. People use this same argument to try to cut the NASA budget. People need to be responsible and not take out a ton of student loans. It’s hard, but someone can graduate from a good state school for $20K in loans.

How come this channel never reports on Middle East sheiks / rulers and only stirs up trouble in Western countries? Edit: Just searched on China and Myanmar. Nothing.

Unless you own the plane, just fricken wait to your destination to party.

Religion makes people irrational.
3
@thegamerkhan Dude - we give Israel $3B a year in aid. That ain't doing anything for education. That's a rounding error for tuition.

Food permits have good intentions. No one wants a food poisoning outbreak. (Yes, permits do no guarantee safety.)

Many 1.5 generations go through similar feelings. It's not totally unique.

@IamAWESOME3980 This is the crux of the argument. It's it nature vs nurture. Professionals are still debating this on how people are impacted. The obvious answer is it's a combination of both. As an adoptee, I've become more "Korean" as I've gotten older. It definitely wasn't due to my culture because I had very little exposure to Korean culture as a kid.
2
@SDongil Huh? Dude - this is super recent. The kid, main focus, is a teenager, so he was adopted in the early 2000s.
2
@christinanguyen3778 Pure generalization, but guys tend to have less of a pull towards the emotional side of adoption. I've talked to many female Korean adoptees in the past and it seemed like there was more of a connection lost. Yeah, I'm totally generalizing inaccurately here.

You are f-ing bad with numbers. The worst equivalency attempt I’ve ever seen.
2
@Kainthemain Healthcare is 18% of GDP. That's $3+ Trillion per year. We give Israel a few billion a year. You are missing 3 zeros on the balance of cash.
2
lol, Israel has been fighting off invasions since the 50s. This channel has zero concept of history. (I am not Jewish and I’m a minority race in America.)

I think G.O.A.L. is probably the best organization to help start your birth search. https://www.goal.or.kr/ edit: I didn't haven't used their organization before, but I make a small donation annually (member dues).

Reminds me of Big Tabacco.

Not. People have been fighting over this land for 2000 years with religious undertones.

Yeah, they had heavy firepower though. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/33818/about-that-huge-rifle-the-secret-service-sniper-was-carrying-during-trumps-photo-op-walk

Dude. Dude! a space always follows a comma.

When both sides believe in the same, but different sky daddy, no side will be willing to compromise.

@adamlangton1967 lol, you dumbass. I got pell grants (small) and Stafford loans ($40K) to pay for my college. I worked part time and during the summers for living expenses. Oh yeah, and after graduation, I got a corporate office job and waited tables on the weekends. I paid my loans off in 7 years.
1
@chesterjade7630 Agree. When I signed my student loan papers, I explicitly remember them having a box that showed how much my monthly payment and years would be.

Hate this shit. I'm all for counterpoints, but this seems like CCP talking points. This whole channel is USA bashing.

Oh boy, I had an argument on twitter about this. I was a bit snarky. Look, parents in the 70s didn't have any resources. THERE WAS NO INTERNET. They just tried to the best they could and failed miserably at a lot of things. Parents these days have a total advantage with all the support groups. My parents didn't intend to adopt me specifically. They wanted another kid and it was easier to adopt internationally. My parents, white, were planning on adopting a black kid, but that was ever more onerous. So, they picked me out of a book, haha.

Ok, as an Asian, it's always funny to hear other Asians with Southern accents.
1
I feel like this is a bit unfair to the South Korean government. While their motives are more about “pride”, the South Korean government has severely restricted foreign adoptions.
1
lol, the passport thing is totally fake. The naturalization process isn't immediate, so you don't get your passport.
