Yeah, nearly every single bit of tech these people use everyday is...invented and created out of California or Washington State.

I feel bad... for the doctors and nurses.
1
Man, we are assholes. The things we do for cheap products and corporations.
1
Worst strategic mistake ever by invading Iraq.
1
Grandma speaking the truth. The big Trump / GOP scam is the deficit increased $400B in 2018-19. That's basically 1% GDP growth. The GDP (pre-covid) sucked without juicing the deficit.
1
NY has the strongest case. There are bank records and tax records that show 2 different numbers.

@adriel7540 Sometimes, we have to deal in practicality vs theory. You can't compare a high level hospital PPE vs the average person mask wearing protocols. America is facing unique challenges since a large portion of people don't believe or will be compliant with proven virus mitigation strategies. In fact, some of them are illegal in the US. Korea has a contact tracing program that gets results in 10 mins. Problem is that it uses your phone data. Illegal in the US. Mandatory quarantines are probably not legal in the US as well. So yes, you try to implement several steps and "hope" they will be effective. The US will have the worst of this vs the world due to the distrust and plain ignorance of its citizens.

Population has doubled in 30 years.

@bobwalton3926 The majority of drunk drivers don't kill people.
1
@organizedchaos4559 lol, your bias is impacting your viewpoint. I've got no dog in this fight. Religion is annoying to me. She's being a reporter and asking the tough questions.
1
Unfortunately, this isn’t just a Putin problem. Too many hardliners in power.
1
Not that exciting. I've eat different ones in Asia. Still taste like bananas. Maybe a bit sweeter.
1
They don’t get paid that much and go to some weird places. I have a bit of empathy for them.

@FreakMeat74 Even using the term "inventor" of mRNA vaccines is inaccurate. Thanks.
1
@susettehorspool2646 NVAX is piggybacking on the HepB methodology of vaccines. Coming out of trials soon.
1
@FreakMeat74 Falsus in uno falsus in omnibus. If the dude is going to use a “stretched truth” self title about himself, that gives me pause immediately about what follows.
1
@FreakMeat74 Dude - they ran massive trials with a huge population. Its the exact definition of unbiased if you understand how to read the data. Regardless, I can see why people might be hesitant of the mRNA vaccines. No real long term analysis done. But, the JNJ vaccine is using tried and trued methodologies for decades. There should be no hesitancy in taking that vaccine.
1
@FreakMeat74 Dude - our life expectancy has doubled in nearly 100 years. That's due to modern medicine. Would you like to live in the 1800s? I don't think so. Every industry has its faults, but this is one time where big pharma has the best intentions.
1
@FreakMeat74 PFE is making 20-30% margins on the vaccine. They aren't gouging us. JNJ stated they aren't making a profit on the vaccine currently - possibly in the future. MRK failed on their vaccine. SNF GSK are still in trials (earlier results sucked). BNTX MRNA had no real revenue stream before this. It's a big deal to them. (I'm a big pharma hater too. Some of the drug prices are outrageous and is jacking up healthcare prices for all of us.)
1
@FreakMeat74 Dude - give some recent examples of fuckery. I'll give you one: opioids. There is always a fine line of companies trying to make money and a company spinning the effectiveness of their drugs. And, then there is flat lying. IMO, this isn't that type of situation. Being a skeptic initially is ok about stuff, but being a skeptic about everything isn't always prudent. Focusing entirely on the missteps of the industry isn't totally fair either. There have been major successes.
1
@FreakMeat74 I don't disagree with you. But, our system that we have adopted is a capitalist society. Even with its faults, objectively our system turned out better than the Russians (obviously not perfect). In general, I am not a fan of all the things you listed. I'd prefer smaller competitive businesses than a huge few. But, many times I don't follow through. * Is big tech bad? Likely, but life pre-internet was pretty annoying * Are huge chemical companies irresponsible? Probably, but I also enjoy using teflon frying pans * Are there downsides of corporate farming? Tons, but we all benefit from lower food prices * Is it bad for our economy that manufacturing moved offshore? Yes, but I buy cars from foreign companies Back to our main point: HIV was a death sentence 40 years ago. Hep C is very treatable and curable now. Hep B cases are down 90% since the 1980s. The system does work (at times).
1
@FreakMeat74 Technically, no one is forcing you get the vaccine. Depending on where you live and work, employers and private businesses may and can put vaccine requirements. This is based off a 1905 Supreme Court case. I'd imagine it will be an extreme inconvenience if you don't get the vaccine (depending on your location). Not sure what school you attended, but my public schools required us to get vaccine shots as did my public 4 year Uni.
1
Dude - that's a whole different set of doctors. These are critical care doctors. They don't see regular patients.
1
Totally agree. This is why government regulations and taxes are required. People are making money and not investing into the infrastructure needed to sustain the area.
1
Fucking crazy. We needed the courts to make this decision and it was only 50 years ago.
1
Glad we are investing $1 TRILLION into the F35 program. Ugh, we suck.
1
Man, we are the worst. Other countries just comply and wear a simple mask. We always have to take things to the nth degree.
1
The Ukrainians should have contacted the Koreans about Subways. In Seoul, it’s basically an underground shopping area + a subway system.
