  1. People got crushed together. Small alley that slopes downhill into a Main Street with sidewalk. But, the sidewalk was full of people. The front has no where to go. In the front, people fell down and the the force of the crowd pushed more people over. Literally, a mass of people that couldn’t be pulled out.

  3. Itaewon is way way different now. Very modernized, but doesn’t have the infrastructure to accommodate big crowds.

  4. Itaewon is a weird district. First saw it when my relatives took me there on my first trip to Korea. It was really run down and a bit grimy. Over the last years, it’s been modernized and become a hot spot. Not a great infrastructure for holding a ton of people. Also, Korea has a lot of side streets / alleys. Unfortunately, this created a bad bottleneck. People flowing into a downsloped alley / side street which funneled into a bigger street that had a sidewalk packed with people.

  6. The closest analogy would be American football. Imagine being on the bottom of the pile, but the people on top can’t get off and you are stuck there. This is what happened.

  7. The music was very loud. Impossible to hear anything. Literally, everything that could go wrong went wrong here.
