  1. Have to admit one of the dumbest things I did in my life was going out in the middle of a hurricane to bodyboard when I was a teenager (good board and swim fins). We all learned how to swim when we were kids. My mom and brother were strong swimmers. I was more average. (And, the waves sucked because the wind made the waves choppy. Still was fun. Was much cleaner after it passed though.)

  2. Sounds corny, but you have to "go with the flow". I'm guessing people start to panic and expend all their energy fighting the current. Almost best just to backfloat until you stop and then swim parallel to the beach to where waves are breaking and then swim forward.
