Usually, takes 7 years after bank deregulation for a major crisis. This time, it only took 5 years. - S&L crisis - 2007-08 mortgage mess (stuff starting getting screwed in ‘06)

Actually if they had treasuries, they would have been less screwed. There is tons of liquidity and they could have cut their losses. They are in MBS which is highly illiquid now. Impossible to sell what they had on the books even if they wanted to.
