  4. Before it was fully completed, my relatives took me to a new small city designated as a smart city: Songdo International Business District in Incheon, Korea. Was like whatever, just a bunch of new buildings. The most impressive part is stuff that you can't see behind the scenes. The biggest complaint is it's cold and not very vibrant.

  6. Just happened in Korea. 2 way tunnel is ok. You just take the opposite lane out. 1 way tunnel, you should be extremely worried. You are basically stuck.

  10. Naw, no one in China wants their kids to play sports because they have to study. That’s how team sports develop. Years and years of little league, travel league, etc. Individual sports are easier because they can select a large number of individuals and put them through punishing repetition. Fits perfect into their methodology.

  12. Our suburb had an outdoor community pool. Also, there were a few lake camping places we would go in the summer. I’m a terrible swimmer as I expend energy inefficiently. But, I think I started learning around age 5 or 6. I vaguely remember the lessons where I’d hang onto the edge and mimic turning my head in and out of the water + practicing the leg motion. We didn’t have a pool at high school. I doubt Chinese people have pools available for the public easily in cities.

  18. Singapore is probably the easiest for English speakers. Then, the Philippines. Then, maybe Malaysia? (Obviously, these are more SE Asia, then East Asia.) Korea is a really tough place to live if you can't speak the language. Likely, the same with Taiwan. (Lived in Korea for 1 year. Ethnically Korean, but raised in the states. I speak like an elementary school level. My Korean cousin lives in Malaysia, but speaks really bad English.)

  23. To be fair, the convention hall urban planners need to be blamed and not the builders (so far). Quick google search shows: Shanghai at 4m above sea level, yikes! New Orleans is 2m. Obviously, NO had bad flooding in the past. Miami is 2m and needs a constant pumping system. Tokyo is 40m and has an intensive underground flood system.

  24.  @ojc8902  I love that parts of Incheon have never changed since my first visit in the early 2000s. Relatives live near Inha Uni. Still remember the one bar / cafe we used to go where the 2nd floor was illegalish since you couldn't stand up at full height.

  29.  @jayvhoncalma3458  Not accurate. Rising Sun Flag is a big no-no. But, Korean people don't hate Japanese people (like Chinese people). And, yes. The older generations hold more animosity. Multiple Japanese entertainers have been somewhat "accepted" in Korea. Very little chance that is happening in China unless its propaganda against Japan.

  44. We always apply / project our known bias to things we don't know. For me, I just assume that every "modern" country has the same rules and regulations. Classic ethnocentrism. But, if you don't live in a foreign country, why would an average let's say American care about how things are constructed in CCP China?

I think it's pretty clear than CCP China is willing to rape any country and any resource on the planet. Basically, what the Europeans did in the colonialism time period or the Japanese pre-WW2. (This statement is giving zero support or justification for what CCP China is doing now.)

  49. China official statistics are around 9.5M babies in ‘22. In the US, we are around 3.3M + 1M net immigrants. A simple excel spreadsheet could have alert CCP officials of the demographic crisis 20+ years ago. It’s rather easy to forecast. No quantum supercomputer needed.
