  1. Our suburb had an outdoor community pool. Also, there were a few lake camping places we would go in the summer. I’m a terrible swimmer as I expend energy inefficiently. But, I think I started learning around age 5 or 6. I vaguely remember the lessons where I’d hang onto the edge and mimic turning my head in and out of the water + practicing the leg motion. We didn’t have a pool at high school. I doubt Chinese people have pools available for the public easily in cities.

  2. The worst stories are out of Hawaii or random East Coast ones. People that don’t know how to swim try to save a person struggling and end up drowning themselves. Many times due to a riptide.
