Let's be real. These subs have been nearby in the waters many many times.

The US originally had a mutual defense pact with Taiwan. We were jerks and reneged on the deal because we want to cozy up with CCP China. This happened under the Carter admin in late ‘79. Congress was pretty annoyed, so they passed a law requiring the US to sell “defensive” weapons to Taiwan. Carter is a good man, but was a terrible POTUS.
25
The US has been using the old F-4s...for target practice, lol.
25
Only the B-1Bs were sent. Those planes are ancient and will be retired over the next 10 years. Sending the B-2 Spirit would have been aggressive. (it's very likely someone thought about this and made the plane decision with this in mind.)
13
Not sure why, but CNN etc was using her glamour shot for her picture. Looks completely different here.

Have to imagine they make very little profit from doing this. Definitely incremental though. Seems almost like how lawyers take pro-bono cases. Supermarket is doing something good for society.
9
Too expensive to maintain. I doubt anyone is still making the parts. Plus, any technical expert has long since retired and or died.

Ok, first one is no big deal since it's an area nearly equidistant from Jeju to Shanghai. The other two (non) intrusions happened on the way other side of the coast which means it was a different sortie or they cut through North Korea or circled north of North Korea. Can't cut through from the South since it's Korean / Japanese waters. Zero idea how they would be able to get close to Pohang, but that seems close. (A visual map would have been handy.) A quick search and it seems they do this garbage all the time. To be fair, the US does send its carriers through the Taiwan strait.

@ALTOGETHER_UNKNOWN I think you transposed what I said. The F-4s were the targets. They were blowing up F-4s out of the sky. In theory, you could call them drones since they were remote controlled.
5
lol, her portrait was a bit distracting to the news story.
4
USS Kentucky carries SLBMs. This sub, USS Annapolis, doesn't.
4
lol, good riddance.
4
Yoon being friends with everyone even the fringe western allies.
3
What a waste of resources.

If someone speaks English like that, it means he was educated in the US at some point in time. Realistically, ROK needs to have military officers up and down the chain of command to speak English fluently for joint exercises and any coordination.
3
Korean minimum wage is 5x higher than the Philippines. It's literally why people want to work in other countries.
3
@life_is_a_myth Yeah, you are starting to dance in the realm of nationalist pride and how the world views a country. Honestly, that seems like idealist goals rather than practical ones. And, I think you are talking about unrealistic scenarios with Korea. No one is immigrating to Korea in large scale numbers with higher end skill sets. They are one of the most educated populations on the planet.
3
@DailyBeatings Yeah, they sold UST and bought MBS.
3
@IRON-5 Any American gear in Iran's possession was sold to the Shah regime. That's 50 years ago.
2
As a Korean, it's a bad look. Not great for a country's image. Also as a Korean, this is how Koreans are. Crazy as hell at times.
2
Korea should have made English as the 2nd official language after the '97 Asian Financial crisis. Needed to revamp the English curriculum and make the younger generation fluent. Total missed opportunity. Now, it's trying to piecemeal domestic solutions.
2
Total misinterpretation of why people are paying attention if he's alive or dead. If he died, there could be a possible power vacuum which is pretty dangerous with a rogue nuclear nation.
2
The old adage was free trade prevents wars. Obviously that was naive and that's why we are in this mess. Total misfire to think dictators will play by any sort of rules.
2
lol, everyone gets discriminated if they are immigrants. Just how things work.
2
Totally curious if either (a) they know the outside world doesn't believe their propaganda and it's just part of the game or (b) they really think people will believe their "news" reports.
1
lol, you are clueless on how American law works. She's toast. All of her charges are "paperwork" crimes ie there is a massive digital / hard evidence trail. They are all easily provable.
1
Next August / September is going to be terrible. No one is in the mood to drink in a festive manner which always helps with the births.
1
umm, adoption should be comfortable. Same race adoptions create WAY less tension for the kids and parents. And actually, it's pretty difficult to adopt in America.
1
Said this before, but the dude is a much better foreign policy President than a domestic one.
1
@AmericanJohnnyBoone Yeap, before my time. Without sounding too simple, but there are bad people out there. Need to have a healthy dose of skepticism in geopolitics. This odd policy of trusting Russia and China blew up in our faces massively. I'm sure other countries have said the same about trusting us as well. We aren't the rock bed of consistency.
1
@chrismachabee3128 Dunno, your Dad? Nice person, but horrible parent?
1
@chrismachabee3128 Dude - it's YouTube comments. Politely, no one cares about odd rhetorical "gotcha" questions. Just say your opinion and people respond. Bluntly, we aren't your friends having a discussion. Or even strangers at a bar. It's just weird YouTube comments.
1
Pretty good odds that missile defense systems can stop a few ICBMs. The issue is Russia or China. They have enough to overwhelm the current missile defense. And, they wouldn't just launch at the US. Likely, they would shell the South with conventional weapons.
1
Do not give the CCP your money and travel to China. Plenty of other places in Asia and SE Asia to visit.

FT did an article on this. Economic data points releases have been nearly halved since '16. The more you fake your data, it becomes harder to fake all the data points. Just easier to stop releasing all of it. Edit: lol, just relooked at the chart. It was nearly 80,000 points of data in the mid-2010s. Now, it's below 20,000. (for reference, if you look at US CPI release, there are probably 100+ points of data on the sheet. That's why the number seems so high. Multiple data points on every major release.)

2:30 Ugh, female shorts. Terrible.
1
Very few have boomeranged back. The Coupang dude is probably the most well known. He moved to the states when he was in middle school. But, I'm probably glossing over someone.
1
Korea is out of the mass adoption business. They'd rather not have poor people adopt Korean kids and intentionally have made the hurdles difficult. (Literally, there are income requirements to adopt from Korea now.)
1
Reunification will never happen. The societies are at a wider gap than East-West Germany. Nearly impossible to combine both societies. And, the South could never risk having a North person become President.
1
It's not a cheerleading competition or NCAA level cheerleading squads. It's the Korean version of the Laker Girls / Dallas Cowboys.
1
Domestically, I’d probably lean towards the last President Moon, but he was horrible on international stuff. The new President has taken the high road and compromise with Japan for the greater good.
1
lol, tell me you know nothing about Korea without saying you know nothing about Korea.
1
Naw, that is an exclusive exercise area that is mostly government officials and their families. The rumor is the ex-wife was cheating with a government official. The government official used his connections to influence the judge in the divorce case and give the ex-wife a big settlement. They were targets and supposedly victims in the exercise area.
1
Wumao out in force on the Korean page. Scram.
1
South Korea has strict rules on who can adopt. Single parents are not on the list.
1
@NesconProductions Dude - Korea and Japan are 2 different countries.
1
Man, I get why Japan has to do it because it has territorial disputes to the North, West and South. But, geez.
1
Several companies have factories outside of Korea. Won't be counted as exports.
1
In theory, Korea could hand him over to the US after his sentence has been served.
1
@TehCommentMaster You are extrapolating "theories" and making your opinions into facts. Get some better reading comprehension skills. Again, any transition of power of rogue nations with nukes will always be worrisome. There is a reason why US pays attention to what happens in Pakistan and has been concerned about Iran.
