I hope they all enjoy the process and experience. And, have a level head on the success rate. Kpop is no different than professional sports. A tiny percent of a tiny percent will even get paid in the lower levels.

I feel bad for the ones that got adopted into bad households. Really was the wild west back then. The vast majority of kids weren't abused and generally were brought up in good households. Usually, the outliers with bad experiences are the most outspoken. If you are an Korean adoptee and need in-country resources in Korea, G.O.A.'L is the best place to start.

Haha, this same thing happened in the US for decades. Kids are 1.5 / 2nd generation and speak English fluently. Parents don't speak English well. Kids speak Korean "ok". In the US, parents will talk in Korean and the kids speak back in half English / half Korean.

Well, Turkey did help the rebels.

Quite amusing. I wouldn't even drive to Daly City from SF to go to InNOut. Also, Shake Shack is a restaurant burger downscaled. InNOut is a fast food burger that is upscaled.

Hard pass for me. My neighborhood sushi place got really crowded because it had about 10 tables + another 12 people around the sushi bar. Maybe I would have to wait about 15+ minutes. Swan Oyster Depot (Anthony Bourdain's favorite spot in SF) was walking distance from my apartment, but the line / wait was way too long. Would walk to the other place that was good enough and served similar food.

Korea as a democracy only started in the late 80s. My guess is some of these rules were enacted to swing in the other direction of authoritarian rule. Definitely needs some fine tuning. (Just guessing and too lazy to do the research)

The amusing part is Korea is extremely small. The drive from SF to LA in the USA, is 50% longer than Seoul to Busan.

Oh boy, the backstory in the US is the crazy part.

When I lived or visit Korea, I barely used my phone outside. I would enjoy just watching the surroundings. The phone has changed societies outside behaviors.

Well, that's weird. InNOut has been very slow on expansion because they want to control quality ie vet their suppliers.

No one is afraid of heights. People are afraid of falling from those heights.

There are way more restrictions with checks and balances these days for international adoptions. To a degree, adoptions are almost disincentivized since there are government stipends per kid in orphanages.

lol, I lived in Daegu and wouldn't go to Gyeonju. I did visit the traditional village closer to Seoul, but outside of Seoul on my first visit to Korea. No idea what the name is.

She had to confuse Greece and Italy. But, that means she never studied any ancient history.

There are a few things that won't catch on in the western world: using gloves for everything and the spit guard masks that food preparers wear.

When I lived in Korea, I had 2 convenience stores within <2 min walk. But, I would never go to them except for 담배. One of the grocery stores <5 min was open all night I think. And, there was a 2nd one as well. Plus, there were Korean “diner” restaurants that were way better than convenience food.

There is a good post on Reddit that gives a summary of what happened.

Nothing disappoints me more is when I'm served boiled pork in Korea. For some reason it's paired with naengmyeon dishes.
