@Scott-vk8cr They don't? How many rich want to or drive a TOYota Prius? I see luxury cars parked in low income neighborhoods, lower middle class homes. And the technology from those cars filters down to the less expensive ones. So... Japan is constantly producing all these gadgety robots and products that rarely make it past the experimental stage and end up useless. Sony, Nintendo, Panasonic don't have nearly the clout they once did and many Japanese companies of the 60'-90's are now surpassed by others. Most Italian products are for the elite, Japanese for the commoner, both serve a purpose. And the Japanese homes look like something from centuries ago. I see you didn't say anything about comparing histories, wonder why?

@Scott-vk8cr And Italy's economy is more flexible/diverse than Japan, Germany, both are heavily dependent on their auto industries and both are struggling, being surpassed or market shares lost to China, S. Korea, US. Italy's economy has done better than Germany's past few years. "For example, just a couple days ago the OECD reported that Italy's per capita Household Income, otherwise known as 'discretionary' income, rose by 3.4% in the 1st quarter of 2024, easily leading all G7 countries, and mainly all others as well. In % terms, that's 250% more than in Germany, who was second, then nearly 700% more than Canada and France, 1,150% more than Britain, and a 'mere' 1,700% more than the United States. That's pretty amazing I'd say, and not just for this 'one quarter' either, it has been trending 'similarly' for many quarters now, totalling years at this point. Now GDP of the U.S. grew at 1.3% in the 1st quarter, and all the other countries GDP grew at the same or higher than Italy's 0.2%. Point being, Italy was easily #1, and Germany was #2. So it again shows how GDP is an extremely meaningless stat, as to how all the citizen's 'financial well being' truthfully is. Because while the U.S. 'economy' grew at over 600% that of Italy's, in comparison, financial well being of the 'people' of Italy went up 1,700% more than for the American people. Shocking, but accurate. It's these kinds of very Meaningful stats that lead to articles like this."

@Scott-vk8cr And Italy's tourism generates the same gdp % as Germany's a little more than France's and less than Spain's. That tourism is a major factor in Italy's gdp is FALSE.

(4.186 Trillion) What % is that?? The stats you and others show are direct and INDIRECT contributions to the GDP which is DEBATABLE.

@Scott-vk8cr Plus CONVENIENTLY overlook all the facts I supplied that don't fit your narrative. IQ, # of engineers and scientist mean NOTHING if not converted to ACTUAL production. Italy is 6th in Europe in # of scientist, engineers, behind Spain, Poland. Both are large NET BENEFICIARIES of EU funds, Poland by far the largest. Neither have an industry or household product I or anyone could name, neither have viable or productive space or any other technology except for a few niche companies, in comparison to Italy.

Ducati...World Superbike FIM Titles, more than all other manufacturers COMBINED, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Aprilia, Benelli, Piaggio(Vespa, most succesful scooter brand), Lambretta, Bimota and MANY MORE. Trucks: Iveco, Isotta, Bremach, Perlini, Rolfo and other subsidiaries. Italy produces 40% of the world's super yachts. Italy by far #1 in fashion brands...Gucci, Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Prada, Versace, Fendi, Valentino, and at least 3 dozen more. (helicopters (Agusta), energy (Enel), shipyards (Fincantieri), just to name a few) Space technology, Appliances, etc etc.

Italy has been the world leader and been around for 20+ centuries, Germany and Japan, 4 and Japan owes it's modern society to the Western world, i;e., Italy. Modern cement, Universities, Capitalism, Banks, Italian inventions. World as we know it today=ITALY.
