@npd6225 You're thinking of Mexico, central, south American mafias, governments, they're corrupt through and through

Legalization does NOT work, ask countries who try it and have limited success. If it did, every country would do it. Addicts always look for the cheapest source and that comes from criminal gangs. You're the leftist worrying about the addicts, the very people that keep these criminals in business. We need to stop treating addiction as a "disease" and the addicts as "victims." Compare the amount of drug use today thanks to liberal laws and policies to just 50 years ago and earlier.

@konstantin6482 Even if there are no criminal penalties, these changes did not legalize drug use in Portugal. Possession has remained prohibited by Portuguese law, and criminal penalties are still applied to drug growers, dealers and traffickers. Some experts say the resounding success of Portugal’s approach has been exaggerated. In a 2014 paper, UC Berkeley’s Hannah Laqueur found that even before Portugal passed its decriminalization law, it was already loosely enforcing its anti-drug laws. “For years before the 2001 legislation, fines served as the primary sanction for individuals arrested and convicted of drug use,” she wrote. “By removing the possibility of criminal sanctions for drug use, the 2001 law primarily codified the existing practice.”

Italy is 18th in corruption in Europe, #53 of 164 countries so stop making those ridiculous baseless assumptions. Russia is #1 and somewhere in the #120's as a comparison.
