  5. It's the OPPOSITE, it was Germany that was a hindrance to Italy and cost them everything. Up to 1940 Italy had won every war it fought the past 30 YEARS prior. Italy's Empire was as large as the Nazi and German colonial Empire of 1911 COMBINED. Germany promised Italy 3 years to upgrade it's depleted forces in the Pact of Steel signed in May' 39. 4 months later they invaded Poland WITHOUT EVER NOTIFYING Italy, and brought an unprepared Italy into WWII. A vicious betrayal.

No it wasn't, the beginning of the end was the Spanish civil war of which Italy was the main contributor to the Nationalist victory but heavily depleted Italian forces, then the betrayal by Germany breaking the Pact of Steel which had promised Italy 3 years to upgrade, broken just 4 months later by the German invasion of Poland bringing Italy into WWII.

BULL, the Italians were defeating the British, what saved the British were America when Churchill went to FDR for help because Britain was bankrupt and on the cusp of defeat after the Battle of Britain, and began receiving massive supplies. Plus the British had their 10 Commonwealths, India fighting, Italy was alone. @davidhimmelsbach557
