@weiserwolf580 dear yaplord, your simplistic example doesn't capture the nuance for the anti-direct vote system we have in place. In the current system, we try to decentralise resources to states, not to people. So if you imagine those 1000 pro agriculture investment ppl scattered across a number of states throughout the US and same with those 5000 pro mining folks, then if there are more states that want agriculture than mining then yes the agriculture crowd wins and rightfully so. Because states collectively form sub cultures that have their own unique views and goals. So the principle here is to give a 1000 member state the same voting power as a 5000 member state because they're treated as individual entities on their own representing the will of their population. That's the democratic thing to do. What you're advocating for is Majoritarianism, not democracy.

@heinzmonster 5/6ths really? Why stop there lie more and say 5.999/6ths at that point... And you still didn't get the point of having a system like this in place. What if the situation was flipped? As in the supposedly small 1/6th happy were the 5/6th unhappy and the 5/6th unhappy were the 1/6th happy. Who's going to champion the rights of this flipped configuration if not the current system we have in place. You can't say you disapprove of the system only when it doesn't benefit you. I doubt you would disapprove of it if the configuration benefited you more....
