@fbi5438 Bro....ummmm.... I'm an Indian too, lol. You're right about moving out not being in our culture but moving out is totally legal here if you're 18+. They actually have no authority over you when you're 18+, which not many Indian kids realize. You describe your dad as this nice guy who just has a wrong idea of what parenting is, but Imma say this to you just in case: If shit hits the ceiling and you feel too threatened by your dad, NEVER let culture stop you from moving out to get a better life. Life's too short to satisfy everyone, don't subscribe to the notion that you owe your parents something for doing the bare minimum that's expected of them legally. Peace.

"It feels weird cuz it's not like he was a drunk bad man, this was his idea of parenting" Same, mine is mysoginistic on top of being violent. It sucks cuz it's gotten to the point where the only instance I find myself feeling happy is his absence. I'm waiting to get financially stable and get out asap.
