The 30mm turret is absolutely necessary, whether it be on a tracked or wheeled IFV. Not only can they punch holes in much larger vehicles at 1600-2000 meters, it has HE that hits like a grenade launcher for soft skin vehicles, fortifications, and dismounted troops in the area. It's the best weapon for killing or suppressing anti tank teams. This allows the vehicle to either transport a full rear compartment full of troops, with a little bit of firepower, or just carry a couple of troops with the crew, and a lot of extra ammo. Easy to reload from in the hull, fantastic optics and sensors, expandable, has room for spike or javelin ATGMs, and network capable.

More infantry on the ground wouldn't have helped armor survive ATGMs in Ukraine. Most of the kills, especially Javelin and Stug-P, have been well outside the range of infantry small arms. They ambush vehicles in both linear and open danger areas. Hitting vehicles in the city seems to be mostly laser guided 152 and 155mm howitzers with drone spotting. All armored vehicles will suffer in this environment, if you don't have air superiority. That's hard to do with the modern proliferation of UAVs. Anything big like an armored vehicle is going to be near impossible to hide after taking an objective. Any missile or arty round that will kill a BTR will also kill an MBT. Maybe no armor is best armor?

@IsaacKuo That would help against ATGMs, but wouldn't do anything against the laser guided artillery shells that are splitting armor in two. You gotta park tanks somewhere, and once they're spotted, they are lazed and destroyed.

@IsaacKuo I would imagine the effectiveness would be similar overall to anti-aircraft systems. They'll work sometimes, but not as much as you think. That technology needs to be observed more in the field. Guess we'll have to see.
