@cm-pr2ys It's not bad, but it's no .50. .338 is right in the middle between 7.62 and .50. 50% smaller bullet, 50% less energy, with similar external ballistics.

It would help if we at least added an "infantry kit" like we did for the M240. New feed tray cover with rail, a buttstock, and pistol grip.

@borderreiver1806 Maybe. AP isn't the only consideration. It's also range, payload capacity in the bullet, and excellent intermediate barrier penetration. Trees, cars, buildings, concrete, sand bags, etc. .50 doesn't shoot onto things, it shoots through them while exploding or lighting it on fire. Ours were very effective in Iraq, and in Afghanistan the CRWS practical made it a 1500 meter sniper system.

@danialyousaf6456 No, it isn't. Sorry. .Both .338 Norma and .337 LM are nearly identical. Norma can fire longer 300 grain bullets, while the most common for the LM is 250 grain, both fired at around 2900 fps. 50 cal is usually 650 grains fired at 2900. Both 338LM and 338NM have 50% less energy, 50% less bullet than the .50 cal.

@HellbirdIV I think it comes down more to the fact that the 25mm grenade was too small to be effective

We also have to consider cost. It's not the weapon cost alone. That's less of a big deal, as a quality weapon will last decades. It's the price per round of ammo. That matters, as logistics and war debt are the god and goddess of war. Most new rifle and machine gun ammo replacements for 5.56, 7.62, and 12.7 all are multiple times the cost of currently issued ammo.

@borderreiver1806 The average vehicle you'll see a .50 on is either a transport truck like an LMTV or an armored car like the MATV. Those vehicles can't really carry a heavier weapon. They should always be escorted by Bradley's, at the least, in a high intensity conflict involving enemy IFVs. Preferably, you have attack choppers above to engage those. The .50 does well against lightly armored vehicles that are similar to the vehicles in threat armies that are also armed with light weapons like the Kamaz.

@Atourq Not the M2. The gun didn't go into production until 1933. It was designed to be a larger version of the M1919 .30 cal machine gun. There was an interim gun called the1921that was a water cooled .50. That's the gun that was produced in 1921, not the M2.

@danialyousaf6456 Shit. Misread your comment. Yes, that's true. 338 is an accurate round over distance. Not as far as 50, but it's half the weight and size.

The Russians replaced it decades ago. All the ones you see now are on the secondary market, with very few spare parts available.

@danialyousaf6456 Yes, on a .50, like the Russian Kord

@luislongoria6621 ineffective in such a small grenade The tech is much more effective in 84mm Can take out a squad

The BC difference between the rounds is indistinguishable
