I was in this battle. We were asked to help, since we had Bradley IFVs. We went in with 5 Brads and 2 Abrams. We lost 2 Brads there, one a catastrophic kill. March 29, 2008. One of the worst days of my life 2nd Platoon, A Co 1-30th Inf

@alexnderrrthewoke4479 The hid EFPs ( advanced IEDs) in swamp coolers on the side of buildings. One penetrated the driver's side of our 4 track and disabled it and broke the ankle of SPC Esco, the driver. The second hit in the early morning and busted the fuel cell and lit the 2 track on fire. The crew and 1st squad in the back were all wounded by molten copper and burned. Everyone made it out alive. We were lucky and were pretty proficient on medical. Thanks, man. I try not to think about that place.

@mehicanbls1526 They really are. And they don't have to be right next to you or under you. They can fire it from 25-50 meters. The 6-8 inch ones could penetrate us, but the Abrams could take them. At this time, in OIF5, most of our casualties we're from explosives. Our battalion had 19 deaths in that 15 months, almost all from bombs. My company lost nobody, despite the 2/3 casualty rate. I credit that to body armor, universal CLS qualification, fantastic evacuation times, and top notch medical care at the CASH. Some guys got 3 purple hearts that year. I'm one of the only ones still in the army after all this other time. Half my platoon was medically retired. We were never heroes. We are survivors And I didn't serve anybody but my friends.

@nitrous_god The only reason I joined was that I knew Americans were going over anyway, and I wanted to help keep everyone alive. We also helped a lot Iraqis. I rendered more medical aide to Iraqis than our own troops. It was one hell of a place

@mehicanbls1526 You're thinking of an RPG. Those are HEAT warheads projected by a rocket. An EFP is a bomb that shoots a copper plate at high velocity, melting it into an armored piercing spike of glowing red metal. Functionally, they act like short range APDS

@navyseal1689 No. Both ended up in the motorpool graveyard at the JSS. The 4 track had a hole in the hull, and you can't just patch it. The 2 track was on fire for hours, so it melted into a puddle of aluminum.

@mehicanbls1526 Oh yeah. I've heard about those. Never saw one. Pretty crazy how much is up to chance, huh? I'm glad it didn't go off. We had something similar in 2005. A mortar round landed in the bussle rack of one of our Brads in our 1st platoon. It was a dud.
14
@mehicanbls1526 I think those are still HEAT warheads, though.

@ronaldmcdonald3965 It wasn't a whistleblower. It was an air force officer, and he was hired for that job. They made a movie about it. There's nothing wrong with the armor. It does what's it's designed to do- stop rounds up to light cannon, artillery fragments, and RPGs. It's not a tank and can't withstand large EFPs any more than it can take 125mm APFSDS from a T80.
6
Amin Heydarian I expected a war. That's what I got. Did you think I'm looking for some kind of sympathy or excuses? If anything, I'm giving an account if how good Iraqi insurgents performed in combat. They were smart, aggressive, and we're able to overcome adversity. I like the Iraqis. I respect them. In fact, I respect them more than I do you.

@wigon A heat round contacts the armor before detonation. An EFP doesn't. Compare a rocket warhead, that must fly towards the target, impact it and inject a jet of hot plasma, to an EFP which of s a bomb that fires a hot spike of hot copper. Saying they are the same is like saying a 120mm HEAT warhead is the same as APFSDS. They are not.

@notagovslave5614 We left Sadr in late August of 2005, spent a month at the Ishtar hotel (Sheraton), and the patrolled Rt. Irish for the rest of the year, based out of Liberty. Our company found and destroyed 208 EFPs on the side of the highway in 4 months.

It's pronounced the MADHI army

@Thatguy_58 _ Were also mentioned in the book Surging South of Baghdad. I remember the day B Co lost 5 in one day-. SSG William Scates and his Alpha team. That was a dark day. I was friends with him and SGT Scott Kirkpatrick. IED triggered by a rug in a house. Took the roof down onto them. Very dark day for the Battleboars. Glad you made it out alive f there, brother. I think half of me never did. I still go there when I sleep.
4
@notagovslave5614 I lived at FOB Hope ( War Eagle) in 2005.
4
@Dogface1984 Yeah, I live in FOB Hope from Jan 05 to August 05. I know exactly who and where you're talking about. Glad you're home alive.

@bigredone9917 Don't remember an EFP proof armor. We added ERA explosive blocks in OIF3, but those only protect against conventional HEAT warheads. EFPs cut through those things.
2
@bigredone9917 I had no idea. Never saw anything like that. We rolled around in open topped 5 tons and Bradley's the first deployment. The second we had 1151s, and we got the MRAPs (Max Pro) in 2007. I patrolled in MATVs in Afghanistan.
2
@bigredone9917 Yeah that's the big issue with those crazy tall vehicles. The part that made me laugh was that the max pro had no way to drain the condensation from the AC, so the water would pool up in a lake on the floor boards.
2
@bigredone9917 Yeah, things always change. Every 10-15 years you can notice a big change. Our generation is almost completely gone in the army. Most company commanders have no combat experience.
2
@Dogface1984 Can't recall. Did you know about" Bob Villa" on FOB Hope? He had that shop + internet cafe
2
@Dogface1984 Crazy times, huh? And my wife gets frustrated that I don't want to go to the fair or an amusement park. Bet you get it
2
@Dogface1984 Absolutely. Make every day feel the way you did when you stepped off that plane at home and make it count.
2
@thehealthpolicychannel1229 Neither you or I made that decision
2
@bigredone9917 The max pro's AC was really good, but they couldn't drain the condensation because a drain hole would compromise the armor.
1
@bigredone9917 They're not used any more. The MATV which s what we use deployed. Those will be phased out by the JTLV
1
@Dogface1984 Damn. That place was kickin' back in '05. My barracks were right across the street. Where were people buying their cartons of Miami cigarettes for 5 bucks ?

@الشمري-غ2ف 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@vicentee2687 That was one bloody neighborhood at that time. Very dedicated fighters
1
@vicentee2687 Oh we engaged those! Both with 25 and 120. Blew the shit out of them

@realWARPIG I was 12 months into a 15 month tour, on my 3rd deployment to Iraq by the time I ended up in that battle. Every single province was on fire that year and everybody on the ground was taking fire. You think you're special? Quit being a douche. I didn't shit on guys who needed some help, so why would you shit on guys who risked their lives to help? You wished more fellow servicemen died? Why? Why would you ever wish that? Shit, I wish that war had never happened and nobody had died. But we did go there, and it was up to us to do the best job we could. I brought all of my soldiers home alive, and that's ultimately the goal. I wish we hadn't lost anybody there. Why in the hell would you wish for more death?
1
@realWARPIG And why are you even talking about 1-26? They weren't in this battle at all
1
@SouthernSilverExchange Even worse. 1st ID is mech, as well. The division that did the breach in Fallujah in Nov '04. They replaced my Division in Baghdad in 04 and 06.
1
@1812bhw So was I. I was in 2nd platoon (my PSG was SSG Levesque in 05). You and I know each other. Which platoon were you in?
1
@1812bhw It was a dark day when Skates's squad got hit. Robicheau was crushed because they were best friends.
1
@1812bhw Lol. I remember you, Wells. This is Ipock

@ybarekg9033 🤡🤡🤡

@قسور-ع1ر Nobody cries there. And you weren't there
1
@قسور-ع1ر you should've seen the piles of Madhi bodies. Thousands of them. The dogs ate well for days 😂😂😂😂
1
@قسور-ع1ر No, dogs ate them, you fool. It's the only value they have.
1
@قسور-ع1ر Madhi brand dog food
1
@قسور-ع1ر Son of civilization? Nah. You are the son of people who live in garbage, burning plastic and open sewage

@drews784 Yes
