@kordellswoffer1520 I agree. It isn't defense for us. It is a defense for millions of Europeans who are next on the chopping block. Keeping this war contained is of vital global interest. Everybody living within missile range of Ukraine understands this. Fighting it here and now will keep American soldiers from having to fight this 2 years from now.

@kordellswoffer1520 No. That's not my point. Give weapons to Ukraine to defend their country from a Russian invasion in order to stop the spread to neighboring countries that would require US troops. Remember Nevil Chamberlain? People against our arming of the ukrainians sound eerily similar. Watch what's being said on Russian TV. This isn't a game

@kordellswoffer1520 Nobody said anything about "going to war in Ukraine" The whole point is to keep American troops out of the war. This is the largest war in Europe since WW2. It's not business as usual. This will cost tens of trillions and tens of thousands of American lives if it isn't contained right now. Yes, we do know who's on the chopping block next. All you have to do is actually listen to Russian media. Go look for yourself. Guys like Dugan are very common and have a large influence on the Russian public. Guys like him have been pushing for this war for many years and celebrate the deaths.

@kordellswoffer1520 I do NOT want any US troops fighting the Russians any more than I want them fighting the Chinese. I'm a veteran infantryman with 5 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm completely anti war. I also don't trust the civilian or military leadership to make the right decisions. I am, however, in favor of NATO countries supplying the Ukrainian military with the proper supplies and weapons to survive this invasion and beat back the invaders. We did the same for the Russians nearly 80 years ago when they were invaded by the Nazis. If we hadn't, they would have lost in the east and it would have been impossible for us to even have a fighting chance. Without lend/lease, we would have lost WW2.

@kordellswoffer1520 Not, that's not what I said. There IS a war. In Ukraine. The Russians and ukrainians have been fighting it since February. if this isn't a war, what is? I said there already is a war and I'm not wrong. Hopefully, the Russians will retreat out of Ukraine and that will be that. Luckily, they're getting hit pretty hard, but if support wanes, they could easily win this. Russia has convinced themselves that they need to fill the 9 defensive gaps the USSR had filled during the cold war in order to survive. The world is going through massive changes this decade and they're not good. I support us arming the ukrainians, but not because I think the west is inherently good. Quite the opposite. Totalitarianism is growing in popularity globally and our country is not far behind.

@kordellswoffer1520 We are already involved. You don't realize that? Yes, it's a war. How do you figure it isn't. It's literally Russia attempting to conquer all or a portion of the neighbor. "Conflict"? What are you talking about? It's a war. Tanks, bombers, helicopters, tons of infantry, missile strikes, destroyed towns and cities, tens of thousands dead. That's a war as much as any other. It's hideous and nothing anybody should ever want to see happen in their country. It's not a police action. It's not a conflict. It's a war. We're already involved by supplying the ukrainians with weapons and intelligence. We're giving the ukrainians targeting coordinates for high value targets such as command posts and ammo supply points. I'd rather give SAMs and artillery to them rather than require US troops to fight next year.

@kordellswoffer1520 An official war? What does that even mean? I never said we were involved in a direct way. I specifically listed 3 different functions we are serving for the ukrainians that are meant to NOT get involved with US troops. I think you are overestimating the combat power of western Europe. Most of Europe is unbelievably weak. The only reason the ukrainians have lasted more than 2 weeks is due to all the help foreign nations have volunteered. This war would have been over by April at the latest with all the weapons, supplies, and Intel from NATO. The whole reason this war expanding west seems unlikely to you is because the ukrainians, with help with us, have fought so ferociously. If we stop giving aid, they will lose just as surely as Russia would have in the 40s.

They actually are organized to fight that way. It's called a Battalion Tactical Group (BTG). Roughly 25% of a BTG is infantry or armored fighting vehicles. Maybe 150-200 are combat troops out of a 600-800 man BTG, with about 50 armored vehicles. These are designed to operate independently, but are relatively small units.
