  7.  @Jorma_K  I don't think we'll see term limits anytime soon even though McCarthy promised to pass support for term limits rather quickly when he bacame speaker . The SCOTUS ruled that term limits are unconstitutional. So, that would require either the SC to overrule their prior ruling (like Roe) or there would need to ne a change to the constitution requiring support of not just a senate supermajority but also 2/3 of the states would have to agree to it. That's no easy task even when nearly 80% of voters, including me, want term limits in place.

  8.  @shari9721  Until the news that Trump stole classified documents, I was unaware that elected officials do NOT go through any type of background check for a security clearance. When I was working with different senators (I was not at the Capitol), my colleagues and I were required to have a rolling 10 year security clearance performed by the FBI even though we did not work with classified documents at all. A candidate who wants to run for federal office should be required to receive an FBI approved security clearance at the same level required by a member of the military accessing similarly classified documents. At the very least, before a member of Congress can be on certain committees, like those dealing with oversight, foreign policy, etc, the member should be required to pass and receive an appropriate security clearance. Knowing it may jeopardize a party by not having seats on certain committees unless passing a background checks, would mean that both parties would put up only quality candidates. Obviously, a potential POTUS candidate should be able to pass the highest level clearance AND anyone working in the WH with access to documents, esp senior advisors, should, too... WITHOUT the POTUS being able to approve and override someone who is unable to pass the checks for clearance.

  9.  @dorothysmith7289  Thank you. I was not aware of this at the time I wrote my comment. The reporter who researched and wrote the article that received national attention also said that his sources at the Capitol said GOP leaders were aware of Santos's lies and routinely joked about him BEFORE Santos's lies were well known. :(
