  1. Perhaps, if Andrew Jackson had honored and not obstructed the 40 acres and a mule agreement at the start of US Reconstruction, black farmers would currently make up for more than 1.3% of all US farmers. Given the history of the US, if Jackson had not obstructed the 40 acres legislation, there's no doubt that black farmers would outnumber white farmers today. There were so many actions by local, state and the federal gov't officials that corrupted the seemingly positive actions of US Reconstruction, that it's not a puzzle why racism has flourished in the US. Hell, the top officials, including the governors, in southern states secretly designed an anti-black propaganda campaign to support and keep their Prisoner-Leasing programs running. They needed more prisoners to lease out as laborers, particularly for coal mining companies, at a rate of $9 per month because abolishment of slavery from Emancipation left nearly every company and plantation without a workforce. State government designed propaganda to portray strong, young black men as predisposed to criminality in an effort to prompt many white people to fear black men. Which prompted whites to report black men to police officers for violating newly enacted and ridiculous vagrancy and loitering laws. The more than were reported, the more prisoners available to lease out for $9 a month and fill the state coffers. Prisoners that were leased out were treated more harshly and their health was neglected because unlike having slaves, companies didn't care if a prison labor was severely injured or died from the working conditions, esp in mines, b/c they'd just get a replacement prisoner at no additional charge. Our state governments in the south worked hard on their propaganda to generate the narrative that all black people were criminals and a danger to whites. It's similar to Tucker Carlson's ridiculous "Replacement Theory" agenda that has convinced millions of Fox viewers to be suspicious of black people and other minorities in the US. Our govt did it first and now the govt is being complicit by allowing right-wing news outlets, like Fox, to continue promoting it. Sorry for the long post, but this makes my blood pressure rise and sometimes I have to get it out. Lol
