We all know Trump will file a motion in April for some ridiculous reason to request to delay the May trial date, and Judge Cannon will likely grant it. On the bright side when Jack Smith indicts him in DC for J6, the DC judge can schedule the trial in December 2023 since trump has nothing scheduled until next March in NYC and jack smith seems to have a December opening in his schedule...

 @rooster1012 Pushing a trial date out to a year after being indicted isn't "splitting it down the middle". She should have at least gone with Feb or March.

All Cannon did was leave plenty of time for the judge in Trump's upcoming Indictment in DC for his J6 involvement plenty of time to schedule that trial. We know Jack Smith is free in December. It's probably a better idea for Trump's DC trial with a non-biased judge to go before his trial in Florida.

@aaronjjacques Of course they can start coming up with a defense. The bodies of the documents isn't really relevant. They have the headings and types of documents, and they can't provide the jury with the contents of the documents anyway. He had classified documents. The content of those documents isn't relevant to the prosecution.

@bulkvanderhuge9006 Now that he's been indicted, time limits to prosecute don't apply like they do when charging someone, and Trump is definitely not going to demand his right to a Speedy Trial be honored. That said "run out the clock" for Trump can mean winning the 2024 election and having his new AH dismiss the charges. Hopefully, Fani Willis will have him convicted before Jan 20, 2025.

@davidpage7900 Longer than 5 months delay. Cannon originally set it for August 2023!

Judicial or Official Immunity is even more protective than qualified immunity held by police officers. Bad rulings, even a neverending string of them will get a judge removed. Perhaps, Jack Smith saw this coming -- Cannon scheduling the trial almost a year away, leaving the judge in the impending J6 indictment in DC plenty of time to schedule Trump's DC trial before his doc's case in Florida. Seems Jack Smith has December free....
